The Breath of Winter

How wrong we were to think that spring was here to last.
From Sunday afternoon a chilly wind is blowing, bringing back the cold of winter.
The air is cold, but clean and clear.
I can see the Alps covered by the snow and a blue clean sky.
I had to cover my vegetable plants in the garden to avoid damages during the night.
The sun is warm in the central hours of the days, but the wind freezing and the mornings and nights are cold again.
April has almost gone, let's hope in a warm month of May.
Is the winter breath blowing in your area too?

@jaboUK They bought tomatoes for the community garden but put them in the shed for last night due to the chance of hail.

@LadyDuck It has been warm here until this week and now seems a bit cooler. I am not at all fond of the cold weather, at first it is good to go to bed and listen to the rain on the roof and such, but after a week I;m over it and wish only for summer to return, hehe

@JudyEv That's because it is cold at 10C/50F degrees. I don't go outside unless it is over 63F/17C degrees. I'm a weather wimp made more so by my asthma.

@Daljinder We used to have four separate seasons, but (as you correctly say) the global warming has messed up everything. Last winter was not even cold, but now that it's spring is colder than usual.

We have four seasons for three months each!
Global warming has messed up the timings of season. At least that is what I think.

Many gardeners here have been faked out by a short spell of warm weather which ended about a week ago. I planted with hope a few seeds and some have sprouted but it's cold again. You're wise to use covers! Our best out-planting time is usually around the end of May.

It was near freezing here last night, so I am glad that my tomatoes are not planted yet.

Our winter wasn't very long or cold this year. We have had an odd spring too. We get one day or so of rain, then lots of sunshine and warm weather. this pattern has been going on for about four months. Luckily, it has rained and snowed quite a bit up north, where our drinking water comes from, so that's good.
I love the tree in your photo, what is it?

We had a very warm winter, it's almost colder now than during the winter. I hope that it will only last a couple of days, all the trees have flowers, it's a shame if the cold last. I think that the tree in the photo is a prunus, it does not bear fruits, only flowers and then leaves.

@ElizabethWallace Yes, the bark is dark purple, people plant those trees for the beautiful colors.

Is the bark sort of dark purple? We have these trees in many varieties. There are also shrubs in the same family. People in SoCal plant the fruitless varieties for the color. All year long they are pretty, gorgeous bark, lovely leaves and stunning flowers.

It is opposite here. Day temperature has been touching 40 Degree Centigrade and days are pretty hot and it is not easy to venture out during day time. April to September are the summer months here. The days are getting longer and nights are getting shorter and it will go on till 21st June. 21st June will have the longest day and shortest night (it happens every year on this side of Globe).
It is good that you do not have to face scorching summer.

@dpk262006 I love those trees, they are covered with flower in this season. This is the park in front of our local hospital.

Not yet and never will. It's because we only have two seasons in this country. Wet and dry, but it's summer all year long!

Wow that was last year and its happening again this year. The weather needs to get a grip and force spring to stay.. I was just reading that Trump is going to let pollution take over again, air, water...he doesn't care so scary to think that idiot is our president...I hope daily he will be impeached... Hope when April starts it stays warm this year.

I have read that Trump does not care at all about pollution, this is insane, we have enough problems trying to help the planet, if the United States starts to pollute again it's a serious problem. Today is warm and sunny, let's hope for a nice April.

Dear Anna,
you are very lucky to enjoy winter in your place. As India is a tropical country, presently every part of India is facing heat wave. Temperature is above 40 degree centigrade.

@sathviksouvik In the world, it's hard to find a country with a beautiful weather, good services and not too expensive life. Switzerland is not too bad.

@LadyDuck Thanks Anna for the comments. I studied in Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio for 1 year. I did LLM in USA at that time. From October to May I found only snow and ice. It was too taxing. In December temperature used to go down to minus 35 degree centigrade. I understand your situation.
In India it is the other way round. April, May, June is too hot for all the areas.
