My New Toy

I got a new toy for my birthday. I requested, and got a Magic Bullet, it will do any job in 10 seconds or less (impressed??). I wanted one, because I was afraid of breaking my regular blender and I wanted to blend those nasty veggies with good fruit and just drink it. This is suppose to make my life easier and I can get in all that green yucky stuff that I do not like, but NEED in order to live a healthy life. I will say it is a pretty cool little contractions. So far I have drank my breakfast, lunch, got a liquid snack and a pick me up. I have been hunting for great recipes and wanted to share something I learned. These are some of the healthy things you can add to your smoothy and not even notice: Tofu- has protein and calcium and makes ya feel full longer. Flaxseed- lowers inflammation and increases blood flow in the body, reduces the risk of high blood pressure and blood clots Chia- This is a superfood, my husband has found it to help him with his diabetic numbers. High in protein, calcium, High fiber, antioxidants. Kefir-calcium & probiotics Quinoa- another superfood, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, helps maintain levels of HDL cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol) this is something I need to work on I am sure there are many more, but I was just amazed at the "good for me" stuff I could add to my smoothie, not taste, but get the benefit from. (win/win) I am loving my new toy. Do you drink smoothies for health and what do you add to yours? Have a beautiful and Healthy day!! Photo is of Tiny playing at Myrtle Beach

I like strawberry flavor for a smoothie. If it possible to have freshly harvested.

I buy both frozen fruit and fresh, sometimes our stock at the supermarket is a bit limited with the fresh fruits.

I have a Ninja I just love. It does basically the same thing as the Magic Bullet. My son's girlfriend has one and loves it. I haven't made too many smoothie's, but I have made shakes. I need to look into healthy smoothies.

I saw the Ninja and thought those looked really good too. Anything that helps me eat healthy and does things fast is good.

@just4him I just did one for my weight lifting son this morning, he loved it. I filled it with lots of protein type stuff. We still have a regular one, the kids like to make large batches of fruit smoothies, they do not like mine with spinach in it. When I leave it on the counter, they stopped tasting it

@mom210 I don't think I'll ever go back to a regular blender again.

I prefer to eat my healthy foods. I'm very oral, and enjoy it much more than drinking them. Enjoy your new Magic Bullet. It sounds amazing! Love your photo!!!!

Thank you, we are having fun blending lots of stuff and chopping other things in it. The photo is Tiny, he had a great time at the beach. It was a nice change because last year he was afraid of it.

@mom210 Sounds great. I'm happy Tiny loves the beach now. It's such a fun place. Kids need time to warm up to certain things, it seems.

I don't have a blender right now so I haven't been able to make any smoothies. But I'm hoping to get one soon so I can make more of them as the weather gets warmer. :)

@ridingbet I have noticed that they are making chocolate milk in 1% now as well. I guess that is to help people decide to buy it because it taste better maybe.

I don't really care for smoothies. I prefer my fruit and vegetables raw, and whole

@AnneEJ depending on how much you put into it, it does take a few minutes. It is funny, the kids watch me and want one until I add that spinach, then they are happy to go on their way and do not ask for one. It is so funny.

I do enjoy most of mine raw as well. There is something so wonderful about taking a big bite of a juicy apple or crispy carrot. Sometimes I just do not take the time to eat them like I should so when I am in a hurry, this is such a great answer for me. There are a few though, like beets (yuck) that I love to disguise in a smoothy

@mom210 I have watched my daughter making a smoothie and realized I could make a regular breakfast and eat it in the time she is preparing.

It all depends on what we throw into our smoothies. The things you mention seem all to be healthy foods.

@mom210 I don't blame you. I have battled with high blood pressure for several months now. At one point I was on 3 medications. I am now working on trying to do it more naturally. I have been whittling away at the numbers for a bit now and I can see a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

He is a little cutie! I have a magic bullet too, and I use it for a lot of different things. I usually make my own bread crumbs with it from the ends of the loaves of bread. I am not a real fan of smoothies, but when I make them, I prefer to use the blender. What I do like doing in the bullet is chopping up broccoli and cauliflower for when I am getting ready to make a soup out of them.

For smoothie I only like banana one with vanilla. Not that green stuff, too much vitamin K in that stuff for me and it is a No No.

@mom210 For me it is not about my blood type, but because I have a rare blood disorder and I am on Warfarin for life and have to be careful not to eat foods with too much vitamin K.

My mom gave me her magic bullet, but i have TOO much stuff in my kitchen. so i need to get rid of it. when we make a smoothie, everyone wants one. so it's better for us to use the blender.

I could see that happening here too, but I put veggies in mine and the kids want nothing to do with it once they see the spinach go in and it turn green.

@mom210 So it is pretty easy to use? Whats the difference between a bullet and a regular blender.

@Castlerock34 It is really easy, the main difference in mine is that mine would not be capable of chewing up nuts or large bulky type things. The motor would probably burn out. Plus it is smaller so I can easily mix up a smoothie for just me. In the blender there would be a lot of excess space then I have to wash that large container. The bullet has several small containers, I could do a shake for breakfast and lunch in separate containers. mainly, convenience.

@sgbrown We are needing a new stove top and I was really thinking of getting one with a grill attached. Hubby grills on Sundays, but with his work schedule that is really all he can do. But now if I had one in the house, I could do it for regular meals. I just do not know if it tastes as good as doing it outside. Guess I need to do some more research. I have made a lot of changes, sure hope when I go to the dr again, it shows.

@mom210 My last check-up showed that my cholesterol was a little high, so I am trying to eat less fatty foods. The only problem is hubby likes everything fried! I have been getting him to grill more now that the weather is better.

My middle daughter bought herself one and she puts in things from your list when making smoothies...and the kids don't even know it's in there. She loves it, or I should say loved it as hers has already quit working after just a couple of months.
