I wanted to have some cauliflower cheese with the roast chicken I cooked.
I went to the super market and was shocked they had none!
I mean its cauliflower! Not exactly Romanesco!
So, I went down to the farmers market... To my shock only 1 stall out of the 20 was selling them.
One small rather miserable looking cauliflower cost $3!!!!
When I usually pay about $1..
Apparently April was too cold, so no cauliflower from Ireland was ready in May!
Those miserable ones was imported from Spain! who'd think I'd ever eat cauliflower from Spain!
How's the cauliflower in your area? Do you eat them at all?

I read recently that there is a cauliflower shortage and that prices are going up on them. Of course I keep seeing things on FB and Pinterest for cauliflower rice and cauliflower pizza crust, so the low-carbers must be eating more cauliflower than usual.

They are an expensive veg right now so I haven't bothered with it for a while. I stick to broccoli and carrots which are as cheap as chips - cheaper actually. Plus I am not keen on having it with cheese. I prefer it with nothing on.

@boiboing lol that is much cost effective! I guess Ireland couldn't negotiate better food import prices! or they just want to make a lot of money!

@Drosophila You need to move to the UK. £1 for a 900g bag which is about the same amount as two medium caulis and you don't have to throw away all the leaves and stalks.

@Drosophila There was only one time I ate it and liked it, and that was at my grandmother's house. She smothered it with cheese. That was okay. I tried making it that way, and I didn't like it, so it must be something Grandma did to it besides the cheese to make it taste palatable.

@Drosophila I agree that it's tasty. My mother used to cook cauliflower all the time so I grew up with it. I think I just turned to green veggies more these days. But occasionally, I buy frozen veggies and sometimes in the combination bags I get are cauliflower and they taste great with all the others mixed in. :)

This is part of our new world. Last week I could only get avocados from Mexico. They were expensive and not as good as ours. I suppose it is because they take it out of the tree while still unripe.

I never get it Wendy, though I love it.
I should get some soon..I think it might have to be frozen however, as the cauliflowers usually are way too small for the price.

We have cauliflower here in the Philippines almost throughout the year. It is produced in the northern part of the Philippines which has a cooler climate.
