Why Do We Chase The Ones Who Leave and Ignore The Ones Who Stay?

I was recently thinking about an ex girlfriend who broke my heart. I was feeling angry and resentful that I loved her so much and she tossed it away like it meant nothing to her. I was so engrossed into my thoughts that I almost missed my daughter making adorable noises and smiling at me. Why is it so easy to take the people who are in my life for granted? Am I the only one who does this?

Lost love can be very painful. I hope you are doing better now. Perhaps you will find someone new who will appreciate you.

That's the sad thing. I have someone, you would think I could just push the past behind me, but when I'm alone with my thoughts I always go back to someone who left instead of stayed.

@PhillyDreamer If you don't have closure from a breakup, it's common to keep wondering "why" the person left, why the breakup happened, what went wrong, etc. There's so many unanswered questions. Closure helps you to move on. Unanswered questions keep you wondering.

@Katlynn I really don't know what kind of closure I need. I think the problem was this particular ex was a long distance relationship, so I never got to explore the full potential. It was like she gave up when I wanted to keep pushing on. Or maybe I was just a distraction from her everyday life and when she didn't need me anymore I was disposed of. I'm just glad I'm not the type of person to give in to my inner demon. I think I could give the woman from Misery a run for her money lol.

If only we were equipped with delete file buttons. Purge all the things we want to forget and find new things to file away.

I guess I am one of those people who doesn't like change. Although I have a great appreciation for variety, I like to know that the things or people I love will always be the same. Maybe if the person who broke my heart stopped looking like the person I was madly in love with, it would be easier to let go.

At some point, we tend to like the feeling of getting hurt. Wanting to be with someone whom we can no longer have is just an example.
I guess we often disregard or take advantage of the people who love us because we know that regardless if we choose them or not, they will still surely stay.
