Out of Place

Last night I was surprised that one friend of mine responded to my birthday greeting. I was late when I greeted him but he was happy that I was the only one who remembered his birthday. He sound bitter on his message. He told me he will never show up because he is struggling financially and so that he will not be out of place in our group. He said he will only show up when he succeeds financially. Then I was like, seriously??? I never thought anything like that against our friendship. No one of us ever did looked at him that way. I don't even have money to treat my friends but they still call on me because I am one of them and we treat each other as brothers and sisters.. He is feeling really bad right now about this issue so what I did was to cheer him up. I don't know where he is located. True friendship is not measured with money or success. It's how friends help the one who needs it without asking for anything in return.
