For my sweet son/grandson from his mom/grandma

Can't believe our little boy is a teenager now. He's starting to look older, his voice is getting a little deeper and he's finally putting on some weight! I've written about him on "that other site" how he was a preemie (2 1/2 pounds), but a fighter. He was born with one kidney which thank God has not caused him any problems. Had migraines for years, but seems to have out-grown them. He had back surgery when he was four to correct a tethered cord, a mild form of Spina Bifida. That was a success and I'm so thankful he's not had any problems. The doctors said he might would have had trouble walking if the problem had not been caught in time. His mom died suddenly from a heart attack when he was almost 2. Over night I went from being Grandma to being Mama. His dad (our son) couldn't take care of him on his own and try to work, so my grandson lived with us while his daddy came over as often as possible. It was so heart-breaking to try to help a toddler understand why his mama wasn't there. I don't regret one minute of those seven years he lived with us. I see them as a blessing to be able to take care of our sweet boy. At school conferences and boy scout meetings, I was the oldest "mom" there, but my boy didn't care. He has always loved Jesus and has such a kind heart. He takes up for the kids at school who tend to get bullied. He was always so little for his age, but he's not any longer! At 13 he reads his Bible and loves youth church. We wondered if he might be mentally a little slow, being born so early, but praise God, he's extremely bright, gets all A's and amazes us with the mind God has blessed him with. A few years ago, his teacher wrote how well behaved he was. I asked him if he was afraid he'd get in trouble if he misbehaved. He told me, no, not at all. He said he behaved because he's a Christian and that's what he's supposed to do. He lives with his dad now, just an hour away and I'm back to being a grandma. I love all my grandchildren, but this boy and I will always share a special bond. I bet some of you can relate.

How neat to have the opportunity to help raise a grandson. I adopted one of mine when his mother did not he want to take him home with her. So my son brought him home.

Wow what a beautiful story and a great picture. It was hard to read without tearing up. You two have a special bond which will always be there. You were there for him at a time in his life when he needed you so much. He sounds like he has grown into a fine young man and the pride shines through in your writing.

Thanks, he's a normal kid, keeps a messy bedroom, but over all he's a cool kid.

@crazyhorseladycx It’s hard how fast they grow up. A few weeks ago, he was almost as tall as me, now he's an inch taller!

What a fighter your grand son is. Overcoming so many obstacles at a young age. I know God has something special in store for his future.

I believe that too. Like I said, he's a normal kid, but I just feel that God has a very special plan for his life. As, of course, God does for each of us.
