wow, good question! I like 'oscars' and 'fritz's' ideas. I would quickly try to size up the situation. If granny looked indigent then I would offer to pay. If she didn't, I'd give her some type of body language to indicate that I knew she had stole something. However, the monkey wrench in this is that looks can be deceiving. Either way, I would not tell management. I also like the poster's idea of leaving a food basket, but I would have no idea where the granny lived. Sadly, by not telling managment, we are contributing to rising prices, as stores have to mark up prices to cover such losses as this. What a dilema!

I know some very wealthy stingy grannies but I would nevertheless not say anything because you never know what her situation might be and offer to pay for it myself. One granny rudely pushed her way passed me in a supermarket after I had offered and sais something like "what, you think I'm homeless black girl" and so now I watch my step!

that is 2 fold. if it looked like she was well off, i'd say something, if anything to her. if she looked poor, i'd pay for her things.

I would either pay or just not say anything. One time I was in the grocery store and this older lady asked me how much the milk was and I told her it was like $2.90. She made the comment that it was too expensive and walked away. SO I bought 1 and a half gallons and gave it to her. It's the little things in life that you do that will always come back to you and reward you in greater ways!

I'd offer to pay for the food if I had the extra money...and if I didn't have the extra money and I thought I could put back something to pay for what she had if I didn't need it, I would.

I wouldn't rat on her, but she may not accept my help either. I have had a few elderly neighbors on fixed incomes and I would leave food baskets on their doors step annonomously.

i'd rather choose to pay for it and buy her some extra more food for days to come. i am not rich but i think i can sacrifice something for her.

If I have extra money I would definatly offer to help. I mean she must not have any money if she has to steal and a granny should not have to do that at her age.
