Sorry, but my jaw hasn't dropped

I keep seeing ads on here with titles along the lines of 'What so-and-so looks like now will make your jaw drop', 'What happened next will make your jaw drop' and so on. Now, maybe I'm just an old cynic but none of these things have so far caused any jaw-dropping, double-taking or even eyebrow-raising on my part. I have not swooned. My teacup and saucer have not hit the floor. Perhaps the internet has made us immune to startling images (although if there was a picture of someone's jaw actually dropping then who knows what my reaction might be?) Have you ever seen anything (anywhere) that almost made your jaw drop?

Do you mean you would prefer not to see the adverts or a jaw dropping event?

@asfarasiknow I hate the audacity of such pages for showing the once beautiful as having aged naturally as if it never happens to anyone but celebrities

Earlier this year I saw a woman's mouth drop open and her eyes fill with tears. She had asked me how long I had been married and when I told her she looked surprised. I could see she was trying to work out how old I must be so I told her. It was at that point that her jaw dropped! I didn't know what to say or why my answer made her eyes fill with tears but I decided not to tell anyone how old I am again! Perhaps my jaw dropped too?

This response put me in mind of when my girlfriend and I were shopping just before Christmas. As I unloaded the groceries onto the conveyor belt, a lady started talking to my partner and carried on while I did the packing. Afterwards she told me that the lady said she had just been widowed and this was her first Christmas without her husband. Watching us as a couple had reminded her of what it had been like to be part of one at that time of year. As you can imagine, my girlfriend was very moved by this. Perhaps the lady you spoke to was in a similar position and she got choked up by the length of your marriage, confirmed by your age.

You'd need a friend nearby to pick it up!
