What do you pay for deodorant?

I don't really want you to tell me but I hope I've hooked you into reading my post. We had to buy deodorant today. Firstly I need to say that once I've looked at prices and chosen something I think suits us, I then just buy it whenever we need it. It's the same with many other items. We have to have them so we buy them but I rarely know the prices at the time. Now where was I? Oh yes, deodorant. We bought two different brands and paid $3.28 for each. Later we discovered one was 50ml and the other 60ml. If we take the 50ml for ease of calculation, that means it costs $6.56 per 100ml or $65.60 for a litre. A litre is 0.264 of a US liquid gallon or 0.22 of an imperial gallon. I think I might start manufacturing deodorant. It might be a lucrative sideline.

Imperial gallon! I can't believe these measures still exist. When will the whole world go metric? It's so much easier to learn for children, too. I can't forget our visit to Florida many years ago where I saw tangerines offered in 'bushels'. It was the first time in my life that I saw tangerines and the word bushel. I asked the vendor how much that was in kg, but he couldn't tell me.

I'm with you on this. However, I've heard we might be reverting back to imperial once we leave the EU. I hope not!

A bushel is a volume...more like litres than kilograms. I'm conversant in both imperial and metric...but than the US gallon is smaller than the imperial gallon.

@MALUSE @Morleyhunt I was trying to cover all bases! For some obscure reason I think the UK might have been still in imperial.

I'm tempted to tell you how much I pay for mine. Well anyway, i will tell you. I pay 5 dollars for aa 100ml organic deodorant spray that contains no parabens or harmful chemicals and which doesn't darken the skin or stain my clothes. I'm very picky when it comes to deodorants and other stuff we use to our body.

We buy deodorants in cream or lotion form. I don't use deodorant. I don't have body odor even if I don't use one

I just buy the deodorants that are on offer. I have a couple of brands that I like and if I see an offer on them, I usually buy 2-3 bottles and they last for months. My only concern is about the ingredients, I only choose the brands that have no parabens.

@JudyEv I believe they make a good profit from all the everyday hygiene items. I would add the shower gels and shampoos in the same category.

I buy extra when they are on special too. I'd love to know how much profit they make on each one.

Deodorants are one of those things that I always go buy in Italy, because exactly the same brand here in Switzerland costs about $3 for 50 ml, while in Italy I pay $1.5. As I said, same brand, same perfume, identical product.

@JudyEv I do not think so, because what a Swiss supermarket pays in wages in more than the double than what Italian workers are paid.

If you buy them in larger quantities, then I think the price would be better. And you wouldn't have to worry about buying them again for a long time

@JudyEv he do have a big store where I live where they only sell things in large quantities. Most of their costumers are restaurant and shop owners but other people shop there too. I get bottled water, soda, cleaning products... etc for cheaper price than if I buy them from a supermarket

@Madshadi That's a very good idea. Most things are cheaper in bulk but sometimes that isn't the case. We've found that with our groceries. You need to compare the prices.

I buy one brand - a brand that I've used most of my adult life. I couldn't care less what my husband buys! And I don't have a cue what they cost...I am not a shopper I'm a buyer.

Crystal Body Deodorant Stick
LOL! Pretty buys my deodorant for me. About a year ago she bought me something new. It is called Crystal Body Deodorant Stick. I costs $7 for a stick and IDK how long the sticks last, but the website said over a year. I've been using this one for over a year now and haven't even used half of the first stick, yet. She bought me two of them at the same time because shipping was cheaper. Here is a picture of my deodorant stick. You are supposed to put it on slightly damp but clean skin. (I have to spritz it with water since I dry thoroughly after my shower.) I just use a travel sized spritzer bottle to get the stick damp and use it. The naturally occurring mineral salts stop odor forming bacteria from growing, even if I sweat a LOT!

@JudyEv IDK what Pretty was researching when she came across this, but she yelled at me and ask if I would be willing to try something she had just found. (She had started placing an order through Amazon.com and needed two more items to get free shipping. I told her yes and she ordered it.) They actually make this for men or women and some of it does have fragrances, too. Here is the story behind this deodorant: Many stores in the U.S. sell this now, but at the time Pretty bought it, we'd never heard of it before.
While traveling in France in 1984, Jerry Rosenblatt, Founder and CEO of Crystalâ„¢, was introduced to a manufactured product made of mineral salts, which purifies water. That same product, he later discovered, also worked as a natural yet powerful hypo

The dollar store sounds good. The trouble is when I go to the dollar stores I don't know if the stuff is cheaper than my supermarket because I don't know any of the prices.

I actually...believe it or not... buy guy deodorant lol! It's like half the price and honestly works better for me. I don't really like the girl deodorants much and I usually have to buy the clinical versions when I do because the normal version don't work for me so that's when I decided to use the guy kind and it's been working ever since!

@JudyEv Yes that is true but I ended up finding a not as strong smelling one from Degree that's been working out fantastically. There was even a review on Amazon for the same deodorant from another woman who talked about how she used it as well so I'm happy to hear that I'm not alone in my situation.

Sounds like an idea. I have noticed that men's deodorants often have more grams for the price as women's. So, I often buy men's deodorant. But, I hadn't thought of making my own.

I typically buy the $1 Suave stuff, although for awhile I bought Dove which is about $4. My husband can only use one brand otherwise he gets a rash.. so his is more expensive too. Good thing it's not a weekly purchase!

@JudyEv Of course it doesn't.. if it did they wouldn't be making a profit. That's also why you can find some that are super cheap, though they don't work as well.

@judyev The only deodorants my wife could find in France (30 years ago) all made her smell like a nice clean bathroom. I'm sure most toiletries are a real scam that we are duped into paying for.
