Now THAT'S what I call a wok!

When we went to the Donnybrook Apple Festival in Western Australia on Easter Saturday, we were pleased to see a number of food stalls dotted around the area. One was selling Spanish foods but I didn't take a photo of the sign and now I can't remember what the dishes were. I think this might have been a risotto but I'm not sure. However we were amazed at the size of the wok. There were three woks this size churning out meals for hungry people. We didn't try this but went on till we came to a Turkish foodstall. I had gozleme and Vince had a doner kebap. The Turkish chef said he'd been in Australia in 20+ years. His wife and son had been born in Australia. He gave us each a piece of the lamb which was going into the kebaps and it was beautifully tender. We often have gozleme at Fairbridge music festival where we'll be this weekend. I wonder if the same Turkish family will be there. Edit: My friend Anna (@LadyDuck) says the flat dish is called a 'paellera' and I remember now the dish was a paella which Anna says is a sort of risotto.

This is not a wok Judy, this is a "paellera" the big flat iron pan that the Spanish use to make the paella, that is a sort of risotto with other ingredients added. The wok has another shape.

You're right of course and it was a paella that they were serving. Thanks for putting me right. I did say I can learn a lot from you didn't I? I'll edit it.

I was going to say since it's Spanish food it's not a wok. Paella is rice with seafood, pork and/or chicken added in and tons of spices. My friend lived in Spain for a while and made this for me the first time I went to her home for dinner...I was sick all night from the spices.

Anna put me right. I should have known it wasn't a wok by the shape. Oh no, you were sick! I was thinking I'd try some if the same stall is at the festival we're going to. Now maybe I won't. Maybe I'll coax Vince into getting some and try some of his.

Gozleme is like a flat pancake spread with various ingredients and folded. I had mince and spinach.

@Kandae11 Yes, but it's not rolled. It's flat pieces cut into squares and provided with lemon wedges.

They have four burners underneath so the heat is being distributed all over the bottom of the pan. It's still possible to burn it but the heat needn't be intense.

That sounds like a great day and good food. I like going to festivals. We have a lot of similar events here in Virginia. Apple festivals in particular. I've never eaten gozleme, but it sounds interesting. I do like to try new things to eat. Recently, my daughter and I tried a new restaurant and I had these spring rolls that were quite different than what I was used to. They were delicious as an appetizer. I want to go back to that restaurant.

Here in Spokane every summer they have what is called Pig Out in the Park. Nearly every restaurant in Spokane and around the area will set up booths in a park downtown. They all agree not to charge over a certain amount for the meals (last year it $9.95). It's free admission and they had about 85 free concerts and other events over the week. Also they had what they call bite size for $3. I've never been. One time I asked my brother if he wanted to go and he said. "Are you kidding? People get killed downtown!"
