POWER LESS

How would you occupy your time if you are left without power for as long as eight hours? -no internet, no television or radio and possibly a phone which isn't charged ?.I suppose I could read or do some art work - but usually, I would have to be in the mood to do certain things. Yesterday when I woke up, there was a power outage - and I almost panicked. It was the weekend and I had planned a breakfast which would include scrambled egg in a toasted cheese sandwich and percolated coffee - both would need the use of electrical appliances. Following breakfast I planned to visit Mylot for a few hours - then get on my sewing machine to complete an order. I really felt powerless and upset about having to change my plans. Thankfully the outage lasted for less than an hour - and I was back on track. How would you cope for a day without power? The drawing above I did on canvas several years ago. It is of a famous action star who died young.

Who is that in the drawing my friend? Is it Bruce? Well, we should think about these things if there were no power. I should come up with a plan because if it ever happens I will have to have cans of food or things of that nature. I saw the other day there were many power outages on the West Coast. I would find things to do like go through my piles of papers that I need to do and sort through photos. Nice you can draw so well. I do have some drawing tools, so I might draw as well. Or even go out and walk.

I was hoping someone would recognise Bruce Lee - that means I didn't do too badly after all. I watched " Enter the Dragon" over a dozen times at least. We can find things to do, - if it is just for a day, I can't imagine that happening for a month or more.

You have reminded me of something I always meant to buy and forgot - a coffee maker that runs without electricity. Amazon.com has something and I always wondered if I could survive without my coffee if we lost power! lol So I know I would read a lot more. I would knit or crochet, since I have a lot of yarn sitting around. If the weather was good, I'd go outside and walk around or find someone to talk with. And I'd probably take a nap!

@Kandae11 I found it on amazon a long time ago and put it on my wish list so that, when I had some money and a place to store it, I could just grab it. If you can't find it, get back to me and I'll find it for you!

That would be an opportunity to spend extra time with your kids. If it happened during the hot weather I won't be able to sleep without a fan.

We had three days one time with no electricity. We used a power source we had to keep lights on and played games and read. I actually watched a movie on my phone.

@Kandae11 no, we do have a generator now but wee didn't then. This is a box that you charge ahead of time and it stores the electricity.

having power outages here in my place should be scheduled; otherwise, we will be like the incredible hulk when lights get off, it is so hot in here.

If it falls on a nice day, I would go out for a long walk and spent some time at a park looking around, praying, and meditating. If it was a bad weather day, I would be in trouble, as my heating system is electric.

@Kandae11 I once survived about a week without electricity in Freezing weather in January but I was much younger then. I would have a hard time surviving now.

in a case of a power outage, I like taking long walks, at least stroll about the neighborhood. a good exercise after a long stay indoors. If i can't do that i will read a novel

The longest this area has been without power was three weeks. Yes, three weeks! It was due to an ice storm some years before we relocated here. Trees were down and workers had to wait for thing to thaw, etc. to complete the task of restoring wires and more.

It doesn`t happen very often but when my part of the city gets cut off electricity it can last for 6 hours! I personally don`t mind filling that time with activity which doesn`t require it. I can clean the house, go out, do some work out, read a book, visit a friend, play with pets. However for people who are at work, for people with babies or people who are very sick 6 hours in the dark, in the cold, without means to prepare food, well, it is one hell of a situation. Or when it is extremely hot and the fridge cant work, the food get spoiled. I think it is regulated by law that nobody stays without electricity for more than 6 hours, but the cunning providers make it a minute shorter which saves them and ruins us...
