Are dandelions weeds, pests or are they free food and medicinal herbs? How do you view dandelions? What do you know about dandelions? Are they welcome in your garden? What do you do with them? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Picture of a lawn in front of a nearby house. Do you see any grass?

The only thing I do know about dandelions is that they have health benefits.

Apparently they are packed with nutrition. Today I ate about a dozen flowers. I enjoy eating them when I spot them in a clean place.

I think that is a common view. When I had a garden, I always picked them and threw them in my smoothies. I even have a couple in a pot and eat a leaf every now and then.

@Nawsheen Yes, many years ago. However. I no longer drink teas. I only drink water most of the times and occasionally something else. I do think that water is healthier than tea.

I like dandelions, but out dandelions also mutated with another weed so now they are less dandelions and more of the weird thick weed. But, can never resist to take a dandelion and make a wish!

@db20747 Never heard of a pote. Can you post a picture? Yes, I'm sure they would taste better with honey on them. What wouldn't? However sometimes its good to eat bitter things. The flower, to me, actually has a sweet taste and so does the stem. I've often seen older people by the side of the road picking dandelions. Here is an interesting video about the health benefits of eating dandelions.
Dandelion is one of the most medicinal plants growing in your garden, it is an every day food that can bring your health to the next level, learn the benefit...

@1hopefulman Really?! Wow. I've heard of edible weeds. My grams talks about pote salad that grows in the backyard. Ever heard of pote salad? Dandelions might taste good dipped on honey, do u think? What made u try a dandelion? I eat honeysuckles.

I don't mind them at all because they are my favorite color. My dad grew up eating dandelion greens and he used to still make them for himself when I was growing up.

I've always liked dandelions though I don't see many here in the woods. Many see them as weeds.

We seem to have an overabundance of them but very few people see them as food and more as weeds to be destroyed.

They are both weeds and food. I make dandelion honey using the flowers, we eat the young leaves in spring but I hate when they go into seeds and invade the air.

Yes, they can be used in a number of ways as food and they can take over a lawn or garden. Right now, over here, they are everywhere and the flowers do look pretty.

@andriaperry You are right! We are used to too many sweet foods(cookies, pastries, candy, ice cream, soft drinks, etc) and don't always appreciate the bitter taste. I have no problem.

Dandelion has been used for a long time, the root, the leaves, the stem and flower have great benefits for our health.. I read that it helps to cure diabetes, but anyway, it has very good nutrition!!
Dandelion root has been used as a therapy for many years. It is able to treat allergies, lower cholesterol levels, to improve bile production, and to detoxify the liver. Also, it has diuretic prope…

Thanks for the link. So, I will continue to eat some dandelions, either leaves or flowers, as often as I can. Now, we have an abundance of them. They are everywhere. Maybe because of all the rain we had in April and May.
