Our one and only daughter surprised us with an all-expense-paid (except pocket money) 4-day vacation to Las Vegas (May 17 to 20)! It was our first time to visit Las Vegas, a 2-hour and half by plane from Calgary.
We checked in at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. We did not lose time to go "hotel-hopping" along Las Vegas boulevard/strip. Caesar's Palace, a 5-star hotel, is luxurious and beautiful. Flamingo Hotel and Casino, developed and owned by the Mafia, is old. It was managed by the late notorious Bugsy Siegel.
We promised our daughter not to play the slots; but we were not able to keep our promise. We played; sadly,we lost. We were told that temperature was above 30's centigrade this time of the year; but it was just in mid-20's. Though broke we had fun!
Whew, I am tired . . got to go to bed!

@antonbunot Even if the Caesar Palace is not the most recent, it is the one I still like a lot. Many do not exist anymore and it's a shame.

@LadyDuck It is luxury! I wonder how much the cost for a night?!

@LadyDuck Actually, the temperature early in the morning on the 17th, was 16 degrees centigrade . . . 25 degrees was the highest during our stay. Most hotels and casinos tell a story/theme. Caesars Palace is about Rome and Julius Caesar. Paris Hotel and Casino is about France. Planet Hollywood is about Hollywood. Trump Hotel is about crazy Trump, of course!

@Shavkat . . It is fun, my friend. But when the wallets start to get flat like a pizza, it is no longer fun!

@Shavkat Nah, I used to work in a large casino as slot attendant/tech . . it is "Hope to win, expect to lose" when playing slot machines. I just play a bit for entertainment.

I like the slots, but I don't spend a lot on them. I'm glad you had a good time!

@spiderdust . . You do? I play the slots once in a blue moon. I worked in a large Calgary casino for 10 years as slot tech/attendant. Playing the slots is - - "Hope to win, expect to lose!" I play just to entertain myself not expecting to win at all.

@antonbunot They are also once in a blue moon for me. Usually I just gamble with the bonus money that the casino hotel gives me as a perk for staying there (never more than $2), and I just play with the penny or nickel slots until I run out of that or get bored. I restrict myself to just that, so it still stays fun for me. I definitely go with the "hope to win, expect to lose" idea!

Nice
How nice your daughter did that for you! Was it for an anniversary or a special occasion?
We have not gone there in a long time - I heard a lot has changed. Everything is apparently much pricier now . . . but there is more to do for families now. I know you went hopping - but did you also go shopping?
I stink at any of those games, so I do not bother. I did nickel keno and won a few dollars worth of coins, but that's about it. I cannot bare to lose on slots - a one shot deal!
Well I'm glad you had a lot of fun and hope you did not get too broke .

@antonbunot Ah, well happy anniversary to you both and your young selves ! You are too funny. Well I'm glad you had a great time in Vegas. Yah, seems like the homeless issue is rising everywhere sadly (oh, you should see it out here too). Such dry heat in Vegas though - I don't know how they can stand to be there. Well I'm glad you're actually not in big doo-doo debt - but ah, those taxes - I know - we can never get away from that!!

LOL . . @SIMPLYD I worked in the casino . . Do you remember I even posted an article about casino gambling. . . But I still play once in a while to entertain myself. But I know my limits. Our daughter paid our airfares, hotel, and foods . . she came with us. We also had lunch at Jollibee. Did not know that there's also Jollibee in Vegas . .

@jaboUK . . . Our daughter surprised us 2 months ago . . . The first thing she asked us was - - "Dad, Mom, did you renew your passports? If not, you have to renew it fast because we are going to Vegas!"

@JudyEv we lost a bit . . large enough to deny me sleep in the plane when homeward bound! . . Just a couple of hundreds. My wife lost less. We played in Paris Hotel and Casino . . and in Flamingo Hotel. We also played in Planet Hollywood. Most of the slot machines are one-cent machines. It takes time to lose $20.

@antonbunot One-cent machines? That would take a long time to lose your money. Did you confess to your daughter? Or did she guess anyway?

@story07 We learned the months of April and May are the best time to visit the city. It is not hot. Our daughter told us that June, July, and August are so hot ( it reaches above 40 degrees centigrade) that if you drop an egg to the pavement, it gets fried right away. hahaha

Great holiday! Suppose you can't go to LV without some gambling! I wonder if I would gamble if I went there, never having ever done so. I have never even bought a lottery ticket!

In playing the slots - - this saying is so true - - "Hope to win, expect to lose!" So, if ever one day you visit Las Vegas, play the slot a bit to entertain yourself.
