Would you make sure that you take salad before your meals or otherwise?

The other day I went to a friend's home. During lunch time he served me salad, which consisted of small pieces of bell pepper (yellow in colour), diced carrot, boiled corn, cucumber pieces and some groundnuts, with a dash of lemon and black salt. It was a delicious and very healthy salad. I think there are endless combination of preparing salad and mixing it with curd, yoghurt or mayonnaise and what not. How do you prefer to make your salad and do you make it a point to take a plate of salad either before meals or stand alone? Image source - Google

At times I can have a salad as my main meal. I try to put maximum ingredients in the salad. I don't usually have my salads before meal. It is after/during my meal most of times.

Yes, some people prefer to have full plate or bowl of salad, instead of taking proper meal. Nothing wrong in it, if you feel satiated taking a full bowl of salad. Would like to know which ingredients to you use in your salad? It is advisable to take salad before meal, instead of taking it after meal. If you take salad before meal, it give you a feeling of some fullness and consequently, you may eat less quantity of food.

@Nawsheen you have a long list of healthy ingredients to make salad. If you take a full bowl or palate of salad instead of regular meal, it would be very healthy for you.

@dpk262006 chicken salad : olive oil, chicken, salt, pepper, sweet corn, onion, carrots, lettuce, mustard, a little bit of vinegar, croutons (this is the kind of salad that i consider to be the perfect meal for me#) Cucumber salad: Cucumber cut into slices, salt, onions, carrots, mangoes or green apples at times Lettuce salad: mayo, carrots, lettuce, salt. We also have egg salad at times and it is prepared in a similar way to the egg sakad. Coleslaw: cabbage, carrots, sweet corn paste, mayo (i don't know how to make this one . Mom makes it)

Filipinos usually eat a heavy meal. I don't think there would be any space left in the stomach for the salad.

Are you speaking on behalf of all Filipinos? Salad could be one of the components, even if you people take heavy of non vegetarian meal. Moreover, salad should be taken before meal not after meals.

@josie_ Yes, if you are eating pasta with raw vegetables then it would be filling and you cannot take full course meal. The logic behind eating salad before meal is - If you take salad before meal, it gives you a feeling of some fullness and consequently, you may eat less quantity of food. Having said that if you are very keen to enjoy your full course meal, then you could avoid eating salad.

@dpk262006 _The salad are usually loaded with pasta which can be a meal by itself. mostly during parties but not for everyday meals. Besides since we eat the salad first then where would there be space for the main course?

I don't have the habit of making salads on regular basis. But in summer time I try to make cucumber (alone) adding salt and lemon sprinkles on it But again this is not on regular basis. It depends on my mood.

It means that you do not regularly make salad. May be it is because of lack of time. Cucumber salad with a dash of fresh lemon juice, is the best in summers.

Yes I try to eat a lot of raw salad as I can always dpk. I actually enjoy it. It is the dressing I put on it that makes it flavorful to me. I use the tangy blue cheese dressing.

@Bodyandbrain If you include beetroot in your salad, I think it is all the more good. Many do not like to eat beetroot because of its hardness and tastelessness. Carrots are also very good coupled with sprouted dal/chana.

Hello Kiran! Nice to see you on board. It is good to hear that you skip your dinner at least thrice a week and instead feed yourself with salad of everything available at your home. . I think a bowl of salad could have endless combinations and you could add anything tasty in it. You could add even nuts and boiled corn in it to make it more tasty.

It's not our habit to eat salad before eating. Usually, we eat it along with our dishes. I love salad, specially those with lettuce, olives, some chicken slices and other veggies , with a vinaigrette dressing. So delicious. I can eat it alone actually.

There is nothing wrong if you eat salad with your meals. Eating salad helps us remain healthy and lettuce etc. are the best bet for salad. If you could eat your specially made salad alone, nothing like it. This way you could once or twice skip your meals.
