Earlier this morning, we crossed the border, as my husband needed an Italian magazine, not available locally.
We arrived that the store was still closed, so I asked to find a cafe to have a good Italian coffee.
We entered a quiet cafe offering a great choice of coffees and pastries.
I skipped the pastries, but I could not resist and ordered two different coffees.
An espresso and an "affogato". The affogato is a hot espresso poured over two small balls of vanilla ice cream. Both the coffee and the gelato were very good.
The next time I want to try a Marocchino (espresso, hot chocolate and milk foam) and a Viennese (espresso, whipped cream and cocoa).
Did you already had your coffee today?
If you need a translation for a coffee you see in the photo, let me know in your comment.

@MALUSE If the Italians are "on duty" (they are most of the time discussing football among them), they have the usual stupid questions: "how much money to you bring to Italy?" "Do you have checks?" "Is the car yours?", it's just to show they do their job.

@LadyDuck I once read an article in a magazine where a person described his visit to Italy.
He said that he was offered coffee many times a day by the host and could not refuse the host.

O, I did . . and always do. Every morning (unless it is snowing heavily) I go to our favorite Tim Hortons to buy large cups of coffee for my son, daughter-in-law, and me and muffins and donuts..

Oh yes, I have had several coffees so far today.
I hate the modern system of a myriad of coffees. Back in the good old days I could simply ask for a coffee and receive one, whereas now I am bombarded with a list of 20 or so totally undecipherable names.

All those in the photos are not "new" all have been served in Italy since I was a very little girl. Now there are weird coffees that I do not even want to try. Not to mention all those that are now called LATTE. I cannot understand the reason, because Latte is the Italian word for MILK.

@LadyDuck In this area in the countryside they have often a cruet of 70° cognac on the table for the coffee, and you have to drink it in the morning to not displease people. At least a man, as a woman you would be able to escape to the white cognac.

@topffer This is a habit they have in the upper east Italian region (Trentino Alto Adige), well they still consider themselves more Austrian than Italian, I can understand. Even the women in the morning asked for a strong grappa and a coffee and then they left to start their work.

I used to love espresso, but once I started with kidney stones I had to get stop drinking it and sold my machine and all my little cups and tiny spoons! I can drink one cup of regular coffee a day - that's all. If I want to drink decaf then I could drink more but decaf is horrible!

@AbbyGreenhill I have the same feeling, decaf and instant are not at all coffee.

@ridingbet I can use condensed milk, but never creamer. Creamer is a synthetic combination of chemicals, oils, sugars, and milk products. Usually it contains corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oil, dipotassium phosphate, and other synthetic ingredients. Now you see why I do not even want to see creamer in my home.

@LadyDuck yes i read your comment in one of my discussions that you don't add creamer to your coffee. i think you were the one to say something about skimmed milk.
