Dear friends, I have been watching for long time, every day people are busy on eating on the road side. I always ask a question to myself, is it healthy? How they can least concern on health and act for quenching the hunger? The hot item is noodles on the road side. The other thing which makes me worries different kinds of snacks on sale openly in a pushing cart. The sales people can cover up the snacks in a decent manner but they never do. Many times I felt to question them, then seeing the people are busy buying the stuffs without any concern… oh something pulling me back. Do you like to buy this kind of food stuffs?

there are some street foods here, and many buy them. one is that duck embryo named BALUT, and some squid balls, or the chicken skin, while those selling noodles have carts and tables in the roadside.

I think some similarities here in our place too. Earlier I used to watch the chicken fries are hanging in a thread on sale but those kind of sales are not there now. May be they people got some restrictions. But the noodles on carts are readily available now also. There won't be any table or chair for seating, you have to stand and eat the food in paper plates.

Personally it would depend. But around here you need a permit most places and times. Getting the proper credentials is easy and tv a lot safer.

Here the people do as a quick and easy way income. They do it open pulling cart and even if there is any checking they can pull off their cart and move off very quickly. Those kind of vendors do not need any license.

But I can't go and eat just for the temptation. If I eat outside, it will be from a neat place, and in closed doors. at least the food cooked in a neat place and in a covered place.

Previously we used to go but nowadays we eat whenever the hygiene is good. We make sure that person who is preparing the snacks is wearing gloves atleast.

The pakkoras, samosas and noodles etc kept in open, Ok in case of noodles, they are preparing on order but others were kept for sale already. They are not using any gloves, or any precautionary measurement to cover the food keeping from dust.

@Sreekala The disgusting part of all is that the sellers they usually take out the food with the same hand and take your money with the same hand

You are right my dear, these food are a bit dangerous especially for small children. There are lot of street foods here in our place too and elsewhere in the world. So, it is our responsibilty to take care of what we eat and our family members as well.

No, not at all. They should be covered at least because of germs. In any case they would not be able to sell like that here because of the Laws that are in place.

Here I doubt whether there is any such Law exists? The Laws are applicable for hotels and restaurants. Here these vendors are not regular and if there any problem they quickly vanished from the site.

@Sreekala Its very tricky to eat like that and you would just have to trust your good sense whether to eat it or not. Although the smell of food cooking is very tempting indeed except for fish.

I've never been to India. There are health food inspectors that come around and check out the food carts?

I don't think so. The poor people involved in this works just for their daily income. They are very careful on not getting caught by the personnel.

Even snacks are selling this way openly. They kept the same in big polythene bag but kept open on top which enough to attract all the flies and dusts.

Things may be different in India but over here anyone selling food must conform to certain hygiene standards. There is a star rating which goes from 0 to 5. I work in a hotel which has five stars. A roadside food vendor needs to conform to exactly the same standards as us. Personally I will never eat from anywhere with less than a 4...4 is pretty decent and there are no significant issues. Below 4 means there are issues.

Road sides vendors, I don't think they are keeping any standard. There won't be any checking too, it seems. But in hotels and restaurants there are periodical checkings by the food inspectors.

I won't buy from roadside vendors, because I do not know the conditions under which the food has been prepared.

The food is preparing infront of you, if it is like noodles and pakkoras. If it is fried items and stored for sale alone (not preparing on spot), it kept in big polythene cover, opened in the top (which enough to get the dust and germs around).
