Trim Castle - the setting for Braveheart

We are visiting Ireland and travelling round in a motor-home. We are spending quite a bit of time in County Meath where our son lives. One of the larger towns in Meath is Trim which has one of the most intact castles in Ireland. Trim Castle was used as a setting for much of the film Braveheart. We have visited there before but there are always lots of photo opportunities at places like this. I like this photo which shows the castle framed by a very pretty wild rose and, surprise, surprise, the photo is one of my own which makes a nice change.

Nice shot, you should watermark it somebody might steal it and post it on other sites without your permission ( just suggesting)

I've only seen bits and pieces of the movie, but I do recognize the castle.

I haven't seen the movie at all but Trim makes the most of the association - not that you can blame them for that.

I remembered the movie. That's a great castle. Can you go inside to tour around?

Yes, they have regular tours. We went through the castle in 2015 so we didn't bother this time.

@JudyEv I am curios. What does it look like inside the castle? Are they any artifacts.

@PatZAnthony Vince has had to buy a cap as he burns easily and even without much sun his forehead is getting red.

@LadyDuck I don't mind using Vince's but I'd much rather stay away from Wikimedia if I can.

Really nice photo. So, you are traveling around in a motor-home. I didn't realize your son lives in County Meath in Ireland. You probably told me that, but I had forgotten it.

@JudyEv Is his wife Irish? Or did he have a particular reason for moving to Ireland?

@IreneVincent He is a jazz musician and thought he'd have more opportunities overseas. He did get involved in the jazz scene and married an Irish girl about 11 years ago.

He has been there about 19 years now and it is truly his home. It's a bit sad for us but that's the way it is.

It is a lovely castle and the surrounds are really attractive. There is one remaining 'gate' which everyone had to pass through to get into the castle grounds. It was a bit incredible to think how many people and animals had passed through where we were standing.

I loved trim Castle - quite eerie to walk through, but that is where I picked my clovers that are pressed in my purse. We have walked along some same paths it seems - how fantastic is that

It is quite eerie. Belle Starr has also visited some of the same places that I/we did. This is a great photo too!

Brave Heart is one of my favorite movies. That's cool to see this castle. Is it available for the tourists to visit it? Or you can just see its outside and you can't go inside?

Australia is the same. We have nothing that goes back more than a few generations. Some of the buildings here are so ancient and have seen so many changes in use and owners, etc.
