Setting Priorities

I sat down at the computer this morning and logged into myLot and realized that I hadn’t been on site since the fourth of July. I didn’t mean for that to happen.
My life if finally shifting back to normal. For me normal is trying to fit thirty hours of stuff into a twenty-four hour day. My computer time has been limited. I’ve spent most of that time doing research for a big road trip we are planning for next spring, and working on my book. It feels good to be writing again, but that’s no excuse for neglecting my online friends. I don’t want to take another six month sabbatical from myLot. I didn’t have a choice last winter. I have a choice now.
The thing I need to do is set priorities. As hard as I try I can’t fit thirty hours of stuff into a twenty-four hour day. I’m not leaving myLot, but at least for the rest of the summer, I will not be here as much as I would like to be.
Do you have trouble fitting in everything you want to into your day?

@valmnz So true but I focus on what matters to me the most and just do what I can. When I get tired I take a break. Most of the stuff on my lists is optional. If I don't have time to make six lap robes for the nursing home, the will gladly take four. I try to keep the absolutes to a minimum.

@BettyB My hubby's uncle has been a dry cleaner in Las Vegas for over 20 or maybe 30 years. My longest road trip has been just a day long and that exhausted me. Do you book hotel/motels ahead of time? I don't find that busting into a motel without a reservation to be of much use though I did it once when we had an emergency. I hope you have a ton of fun.

@sallypup We will book some, like the time in Vegas and we'll book a hotel near Zion National Park, but we've never had trouble finding a hotel/motel when traveling. I love road trips. I drive by myself to Minnesota every summer (1,500 miles), but my husband doesn't handle it as well. We'll take our time and stop when we need to.

I like to be busy. Sometimes I tip over into too busy but I can mostly control that. We had planned on taking a big road tip the spring after we retired but medical issues this spring prevented that. Next spring my father's family is having a reunion in Las Vegas. We are going to travel cross country sightseeing along the way there and back. We are planning on three weeks. We've taken other road trips but never one that long. The nice thing about being retired is that we will not be limited to a timetable. If we get tired we can stop for a day or two and rest. When we get tired of traveling, we'll head for home.

@just4him Once I get drawn into the story I have trouble setting it aside. I don't dare do that right now as I have so much other stuff going on. I'll get serious in September or October. I would like to participate in NaNoWr again in November but I can't unless I finish what I'm working on.

@Jeanniemaries That's hard. I can but don't like to go online from my phone. I probably would have just given up until I got home.

I don't regret retiring for a minute. Several of my friends swore I would be bored within a month. Nope. I'm busier now than before I retired. The main advantage now if when I hit overload I can slow down. I don't have a boss pushing me to do more.

That's all any of us can do. I like to stay busy but when I'm tired, I stop. When I was younger (and still working) I didn't have that option. I like having that option.

It is hard to get everything done, but maybe we are all doing too much @BettyB or expecting too many things to fit in a day!

Slow internet drives me crazy. I end up logging off.
