I felt strange after seeing this news. Girls were not allowed to play till now in the country. This gender-based discrimination is not good. What is your take on this? Hope all the male dominated societies move towards like-minded societies in future.

As a female, of course I don't like that. At least this is a development for women there. It is better than before. I hope girls can do more as well as boys there.

Saudi Arabia is a place where gender discrimination is so high. My elder sister worked there and they can't go out without a purda irrespective of the religion. She worked there before years and I don't know what is the status at present. If you hear this news means they are changing the law and it is a wonderful step to allow girls to play sports. In our country we have so much freedom all the ways. So it is difficult for us to digest these kind of discrimination.

@LadyDuck Yes, women need to stand up for themselves in their own way for their rights No one would do it for them :)

@vsai2008 , it is shocking when one realises that it took all this time to give those girls the right to do what we automatically do in other countries. I am just happy they will have a choice now.

maybe that is why Saudi Arabia did not want girls to play sports is because of the clothing apparel of the girls when they play, example, baseball, soccer, or anything that is active sports.

Their private schools allow the girl children to play, but now they got that rule to their public schools. I am sure they have thought about this clothing issue as well

I think they are getting out of the mental block step by step. Why should we deny equal rights to fifty percent of population? siva
