A town called Condom

Far be it for me to smirk at the names of towns when Australia has names like Useless Loop, Delicate Knobby, Banana and Come by Chance but we had to smile when we came to the town of Condom. I nearly got hit be a car crossing the road. Because traffic drives on the right, I get totally muddled when crossing the road on foot and keep checking left instead of right. A river runs through the town and near the river were some raised beds with plots of herbs growing, Each herb had a nameplate and I gather the plants were there for the picking. We walked along the river-bank admiring all the boats and a little girl was keen to show us a baby bird that had suddenly appeared on the dock. It’s amazing what good French these youngsters can speak. We just had to smile and nod a lot. ‘Oooh’ and ‘aaah’ seems to work in most languages too. Several boats were for sale so we studied them carefully too. According to a brochure I picked up there are a number of attractions around Condom but sometimes the issues of parking and finding our way around just get too frustrating. I’ll add a photo of one of the narrow streets we encountered in Montolieu. The green machine ahead of us is a farm implement which was even wider than us!

What an odd name. Do they pronounce it differently? I tried it in a fake French accent, but couldn't figure it out.

@teamfreak16 I was about to write what I see @xFiacre just told you. That explains why there is no town called 'Preservatif'!

@Nawsheen They are indeed funny names. Perhaps people from other countries will also share strange names from their countries.
