Junk art at its best

I’ve put up photos from time to time of ‘junk art’ or statues made from all sorts of bits and pieces. Here is another horse which I thought was cleverly done. It was in a garden full of such things at a heavy horse farm which I’ll post more about later. It is also the place where I fell over and sat on two rotten apples. Somewhere among the brochures I have the name of the farm. I tend to take home a lot of the brochures I’ve collected during a trip but they can be weighty. Sometimes I type the information I need or I might take a photograph of the relevant pages that I need. Do you take home any keepsakes from the trips you make?

Last year we had to dump all the brochures and information stuff we had gathered over our trip because we were really quite overweight. I guess you could take photos of it to upload later at home?

I do that quite often. There is often really good information on notice boards too that I sometimes haven't been able to find elsewhere so now I photograph quite a few of the notices.

My husband took home thousand of brochures. Most of the time we had to buy an additional luggage because he had all those stuff to take on the plane with him. I got mad with this habit, most of those brochures are still hunting me in boxes in the basement.

I have some brochures at home from other trips too but one day soon, as part of my decluttering, I will be throwing most of them out. Once you get home, some don't mean as much to you.

@JudyEv I agree and now we can find everything online, even not keeping all those papers.

Earlier I used to take back some souvenirs or pamphlets from a trip back to home. However now it's more about pictures and videos.

We both take a lot of photos but don't normally take videos. It's good that you do that.

These kind of sculptures were popular 20 years ago, this one is less bad than what I see usually. I did not even took a photo of the last one I saw (a bee made with junk, in a public garden). I used to buy a lot of brochures, I do not do it anymore, and I have dumped many when I moved. I also do not always remember where I took a picture.

I don't often buy brochures but I pick up a lot of free ones. Mostly I put my photos into folders - Lourdes, Bordeaux, etc - but sometimes the place escapes me.

@changjiangzhibin89 Yes, I guess that might have been better but I wouldn't have liked trying to paint all those bits and pieces.

Yes, I do. Brochures, magazines, photos and all keepsake not heavy for my bag. Those things have helped me when I wrote something.

I keep going through them and weeding them out as I don't want to have too much paper in my luggage.

This is amazing! The person who created this must have spent a lot of time doing this. It's hard to piece together pieces to make it look like something. There are a number of really talented people who enjoy doing this sort of thing.

You're right. Creative people can create all sorts of things from pieces that most of us would chuck out.

@JudyEv When we go to a new spot for a vacation I usually get myself a souvenir coffee mug, that's about it!

@AbbyGreenhill I sometimes buy a coffee mug but really I have too many mugs as it is - and I already have a pile of tea-towels from various places. They seem too pretty to use.

Fridge magnets are great. Cheap, light and take up little room - not like a husband!

When I was a kid, I collected brochures from all over the place, even though I had never been anywhere.

Whoever has made this up has done a great job, hasn't he/she? I'm presuming it's a male but I guess a woman could do equally as well.

It is very difficult to get rid of those keepsakes. Every ten years or so, I would try really hard to get rid of some old brochures. I still kept those from Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Florida, etc....

@YrNemo That's true. Our little bits and pieces have sentimental value for us but not for others.

@JudyEv We keep those as souvenirs, momentoes/mementoes since we were there at places at certain moments in the past. To others, they do resemble junks .

@JudyEv , It is very nice indeed! Oh my God, the Artist must be very sound in the anatomy of a horse! How perfectly he made dam and foal ! They are giving the feeling that they may jump in happiness at any moment! Very nice! Thanks for sharing!

First off, that is a lovely piece of art. Whoever did it is a genius indeed! As for your question, yes, I do take keepsakes from my trips. Usually it is a shirt or two and a couple of souvenir items. Plus lots of photos and memories. Nowadays, I find myself getting key chains and ref magnets from the places that I have visited. The story of you sitting on two rotten apples sounds interesting, would you care to post about that?

I used to keep all sorts of things but then it was all becoming too much. Magnets are good for me now as they don't take too much room. The apple story is here:
I like all animals, especially horses and especially heavy or draught horses. I learnt to ride on one of these gentle giants and in our last few days in France...

I love junk art and have seen some pretty amazing things that were made. I love this horse. He is so majestic if that makes any sense. I used to bring things home and yes. lots of brochures. I don't travel much anymore so I don't have to worry about which ones I want to keep. You have so much fun and I enjoy coming over here and reading about all the many places you have been.
