Australians are voting on same-sex marriage

Just like my last post, the photo has nothing to do with the text. It’s just a nice photo.
Australian citizens will shortly know the results of the postal survey on whether or not they want same-sex marriages legalised. Some people have been very vocal in putting their views forward. Many have returned their surveys but now it’s been revealed that some of the returned survey envelopes contain rather more than the voting paper.
Residents were warned before the mail-out that including glitter with the survey form would risk making their vote null and void. However it turns out that glitter is the least of the worries of those opening the envelopes and recording the votes. Some have included soil with their papers but the most hazardous has been the inclusion of razor blades. I just don’t get some people. Do they think those opening the envelopes are responsible in some way for the outcome? How will including razor blades influence the vote for one side or the other?
The survey closes on November 7 and to date, at least 11.9 million have voted. This is almost three-quarters of those eligible. It seems Australians aren’t too laid back to vote on this issue. The results will be announced on November 15. I’ll keep you posted.

I really hope it is legalized. It shouldn't have even had to be legalized. Love is love. I will be following the news very closely.

What makes you think that it should be legalized?

@dpk262006 Because love is love. Men can love men, women can love women. men can love women. women can love men. it is that simple. love is a chemical reaction in the brain.

Does this kind of survey has any legal sanctity?

@JudyEv If it has been organised by the Government, then its findings will have bearing of Government framing a law on this issue or otherwise.

@dpk262006 Yes, I'm sure that is what is supposed to happen.

Sounds interesting. What was the idea behind this survey?

I already thought Australia had voted to legalize it.

That's just plain nuts. I would be very afraid to open even one of those votes.

I'm sure they are all being very careful now. The article didn't say which group was enclosing razors. Their votes will be invalid as surely they weren't stupid enough to put leave their names on the voting card. But then they might have been (that stupid).

The fact that this even gets voted on saddens me. Marry who you want.

@teamfreak16 Two of one group of friends have a son who is a priest. The woman thinks homosexuals deserve our love and prayers and hopefully they'll 'recover' and change their ways. She says the Christian path is that of a family and anything else is unnatural. I should think celibacy would be pretty 'unnatural' for a start. But we bite our tongue and try not to get involved in such discussions.

That is sad. I know it's a hot button topic and people feel strongly about each side of it, generally. But how horrible for them the include razor blades etc. That will only hurt the people opening them. They should announce that if you put anything other than the form in there - your vote will be tossed out

Their votes will be tossed out anyway as part of the return form is a slip with your name and address so you can be crossed off the electoral roll (to say you've voted). Surely they're not stupid enough to leave their names and without it their vote will be invalid.

@JudyEv Good - people who endanger innocent others shouldn't get to "count".

I am guessing it will be legalized everywhere at some point in time.

I think eventually it will be but there is still a lot of stigma connected with it. And I think some of the stigma is kept under wraps now as it is not 'politically correct' in some circles to denigrate it.

It is isn't it? I think some are just nutties. It defies logic.

in my view, whether it is legal or not is doesn't matter. at least, they won't involve my life
