i suddenly remembered that i haven't been weighing myself for quite sometime so i stepped on the digital scale. 148.6 - eek! i went to the calendar to write it and received another shock. my last recorded weight was way back october 1st - 145.4! i weigh myself every sunday morning and set the reminder on my phone. somehow, i forgot to input it for the whole month of october and never even noticed it! my fantasy weight is 135, but i can't even go down to 140. hahaha! i know what i need to do diet-wise - eat less rice, eat less sweets. but i also know i really need to start moving. even if it's just walking.

I step on my scale every Sunday morning, I measure my waist and hips and I write down on my agenda weight and measurements. As soon as I see that I am 1 pound up, I stop eating pasta and bread and I only drink water until I go back to my weight.

And for this reason, I rarely check my numbers on the scale . . . I don't want to know ! Believe me, I know I need to cut down on the rice, sweets, and bread . . . but I give in to temptation . I do drink a lot of teas . . . and then I try to eat more vegetables (like dandelion greens that's supposed to do a lot of good including less the cravings for sweets - but it is bitter). I was good about getting in a walk at the college earlier in the year . . . but after the kids started school in August I've been doing volunteer work in the class - and haven't had the time (or at least that's my excuse ). I blame the next couple months on all the yummy holiday foods that are coming around!

Sounds like we're on the same path. I was almost down into the 145 territory and then started climbing back up again about a month ago. I'm now fluctuating between 148 and 150.5 again. I really must ditch the chocolate. I do much better when Costco runs out of my favorite chocolate bark. I actually resisted buying the Dark chocolate covered almonds with coconut when they had them in last time because they were mostly sugar and I had no self-control. I devoured a large bag in less than a week. Shame on me. Now it's dark chocolate bark with pumpkin seeds. Yum!

I had gone from 130 to 150 in 2 months when I had a THING for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups @hereandthere . I almost fell over when I stepped on the scale. Stopped the PB's and went back down to 130 in 2 months. Of course now at 106, I should start up the PB's again.

@nanette64 oh, it's not me buying the goodies, but those that do here easily lose interest so they're taking up space in the fridge and the dining table.

I weigh myself at least twice a week and have been the same weight 62 kgs since a long time ...I do put on weight during festivities when we have sweets and other rich foods but once I get back to my routine I lose the extra weight since I am forced to walk at least 8 kms a day ..

@hereandthere I feel the more number of times you weigh yourself the more conscious you become about your weight management. I have to walk a km each way before taking the bus which means I have to walk a little more than 4 kms every day and within the school I am constantly walking ,same at home , adds up to around 14000+ steps ..a kilometers is roughly about 1350 steps ..I am actually walking around 10 kms a day. I have installed a step /calorie counter app on my mobile and clip my mobile either on my waist band or carry it in a sling bag all the time so that I get an actual count.

@kiran8 you have a good point about weighing frequently. thank you for sharing about the number of steps. i know others use a step counter or pedometer, but your workarounds using your mobile phone are cool, too.

It is not easy to lose weight. I always found it hard to keep it off. I learned after going to something else that was not a diet club here in Israel that there is a way to keep weight off, but, I am not ready. Give up sweets or eat them at a minimum and walk like you are doing.

@hereandthere Would 'above healthy' be a good thing as in it's better than average healthy? Or am I interpreting it incorrectly?

actually, i was thin most of my life. i wasn't a huge eater, either. i started gaining weight when i was much older and my metabolism started slowing down. maybe it's better not to force your weight gain if you're still young and your body is still developing.

Yeah. I think it's really important to start moving. Walking can help, but you can try running. :) Like, 15-20 minutes a day. That wouldn't hurt I guess. It helped me, that's for sure. :)

Yes, less sweets and less rice and more exercise. Actually, I was formerly at 132 pounds. When I remembered to weigh last week, I was down to 124 pounds, when I wasn't dieting. I wasn't even doing my 15 minute exercise in the morning, because it's cold now and I am always sleepy. Maybe because I cut on sweets because of my fungal infection on my four toenails. Also, my coffee as I have researched its herbal ingredients ; tongkat-ali, ginseng, ganoderma and maca have one thing in common, they help lose weight.

@hereandthere Maybe that is true. Manila is polluted so that could be a reason for the too much heat despite the cold front already here. Yes, I am. It helped my hot flushes lessen. It also makes me sleep so fitfully at night. As to appetite, it's still the same, although I lost 6 pounds. I don;t like that, just the tummy fat I like to be eradicated. he he he The affected bit toenail has a bit thin now. The two smallest toenails' cuticles whenever I remove them are already thin.

@hereandthere I was thin when I was still single. I was thin too during the time that I was still rearing my children. but when I reached the age of 50, I started gaining weight... But I do Zumba sometimes and the chores at home really help. It is as if I am exercising too because I sweat much...
