So only two more spots for my ten songs featuring ‘kangaroo’ in the title or lyrics. However I suddenly remembered another one that might be quite well known so I’ll jam two into this discussion, making 11 songs in all. The first is ‘My Boomerang Won’t Come Back’ by Charlie Drake, who was an English comedian, actor, writer and singer. He was born in 1925 and died two days before Christmas in 2006. On reading the lyrics, it mentions ‘kinkajou stew’ I’d never heard of a kinkajou but it turns out it’s a little animal from Central and South America and related to the raccoon. A very interesting animal worthy of its own discussion so watch this space. However they’re not found in Australia but I guess Charlie just needed something to rhyme with kangaroo. The second song is another one by Rolf Harris so @WorDazza – this is where you stop reading. It’s a Christmas song which is another reason why I can’t leave it out although it’s the one I’ve only just thought of. It’s called Six White Boomers and is about ‘old men kangaroos’ replacing the reindeer in Santa’s sleigh when he gets to Australia. Large male kangaroos are often known as ‘boomers’ or ‘old men’. The photo is a still from a video we took of a buck leaping our fence. I had no idea a kangaroo could assume this shape over a fence.
I put pictures to the song, "My Boomerang Won't Come Back" by Charlie Drake. I think this video is funny, let me know what you think?

Charlie Drake. Now that's more like it. A good wholesome British entertainer.

@JudyEv But at least he wasn't getting up to anything dubious with unwilling young ladies!!!!

Charlie Drake was a cheeky little chap and loved the ladies, particularly the younger ones. I am surprised he's not on the 'other list' that Rolf Harris is on. That aside I love both these records. My favourite lines from My Boomerang Won't Come Back are, "I've waved the thing all over the place, practiced 'til I was black in the face"

@JudyEv I've no idea what Kinkajou is. I think I always assumed it was a made up word.

@Orson_Kart It sounds made up doesn't it? But it is definitely a real creature.

I can't imagine where he dredged up 'kinkajou stew'. Kinkajou would be a relatively unknown animal I would think and certainly doesn't come from Australia.

@JudyEv he was a very good serious actor too, especially in a TV adaptation of Dickens's Bleak House

I remember that song well, though couldn't have told you who it was by! When I get time I'm just going to have to go back and read all these previous kangaroo song posts. Counting down the weeks until I may get to see a kangaroo in the wild - 24 weeks to go :-)

@JudyEv but since I've been waiting for this for a few years 24 weeks seems like nothing at all

24 weeks? That's still a fair way. Too long to start counting days yet.

They'd need to get their hopping synchronised I think.

I know I said this in one of your other posts, but how cool is it that you can see them on your property. I would be so excited, scared but excited. Really great picture, he is jumping with great ease.

He was scared of us but didn't want to leave the doe so he actually jumped the fence three times while we were there. The doe's little joey got all confused and followed the buck but he (the joey) went through the fence, not over it.

It's a beauty isn't it? The little joey got confused and followed the buck but went through the fence not over it.
