Would you take a pill to lessen bad memories? Why or why not? According to a 60 Minutes segment, a pill of this type is in the works. You can read more at: http://60minutes.yahoo.com/segment/21/memory_drug

I think you may have misunderstood...it is not a pill to improve memory, but rather one that will erase bad/other memories. Do you still think it is a good idea? Thank you for responding.

There is too little understood about the human brain and the mind it runs to consider such an option. We all are the sum of our parts. Good experiences, bad ones, are all teaching experiences. Lessening the memory also lessen what we have learned to deal with events in our lives. Learning coping skills is what needs to be done. Even if part of that learning is therapy and counseling. Better living through chemistry is a fallacy.

I read about this pill in Popular Science and I would not want to use it. Even if you have a traumatic experience, you learn from it. I believe there are too many ways this pill could be abused.

I agree with you. I feel the potential for abuse with this pill far outway the benefits it could have on some. I personally want to keep all my memories, the good and the bad. Thanks for the response.

no I wouldn't. I think that even the bad memories should still stay they make you who you are, and help you make better decisions. Without them, you would make the same bad mistakes again and again and keep getting hurt. Why would you want that to happen?

That's kind of my feeling on the subject too. It's scary to me that a pill could have that affect on our memories. Thanks for the response Mirage.

I'm very sorry to hear about your chronic pain. I can identify with the lack of sleep though. I hope things improve for you soon. Best wishes and God Bless.
