Weddings in India are grand affairs. They are like festive occasions in India. Weddings are celebrated with pomp and show, extensive decorations, colors, music, dance, costumes and rituals depending upon the religion of the bride and the groom and their preferences.
Weddings in Northern States of India generally are held during night. Some people go for day time marriage. Night weddings are preferred as one could get full day to get ready for the ceremonies, which sometimes go on till early next day morning. Beautiful lighting arrangements and decorations are held during night weddings. Night weddings have also some drawbacks but are still preferred.
At your place, does the wedding ceremony take place during night or during day time. What is your own preferences in this regard?

It is day time affair in Philippines and most of the people go for it. It is my pleasure to describe about a North Indian wedding.
These are held in banquet halls and open grounds.

Most of our wedding s take place during day time , sometimes very early .. normally there will be a reception in the evening/night after the wedding. But now I see that people are aware and don't spend too much on a wedding , everything is subdued , which is a step in the right direction.

I understand that in South of India or in Southern States, wedding ceremonies are generally held during day time and reception is held during evening or night.
There may be some sane souls who believe that spending too much on a wedding is not prudent, therefore, they go for moderate.
What are your own preferences in this regard or you would like to go with the flow?

@dpk262006 I definitely don't believe in splurging . When my elder daughter got married we had just 250 guests, close relatives and friends . We had just one function at a good hotel. The previous day, mehendi just for the family and the expenses for the wedding were shared.

here, the reception is immediately after the wedding. if the wedding in india is in the morning and the reception at night, are all the guests able to attend both?

I understand that in Southern States weddings take place during day time, which is different from North Indian States. Day time weddings have its own advantages and given the choice, I would also like to attend day time wedding, however, here the number of day time weddings is very minuscule.

Typically daytime, but if they hold the reception inside a hall or hotel it usually takes place in the evening.

@cahaya1983 Do you mean to say that day time, it is informal?
Good to hear that your wedding took place during day time. If you do not mind, would you mind sharing, how long have you been married?

@dpk262006 She was certainly very impressed with the wedding she attended and told us all about it. Most weddings here are during daylight I guess but the reception afterwards will often be at night.

@Shavkat Weddings should be organised as per availability of a particular Church, instead of other way round?

It is good in a way that catholic weddings get over latest by afternoon and guests could easily go to their homes. In day time marriage, guests tend to stay to be a part of entire proceedings, however in night weddings, after having their dinner, some of the guests leave the venue on one pretext or the other.

@LadyDuck It means that your weeding took place during day time and guests were treated to a sumptuous lunch during day time in a hotel and everyone left the venue by evening.

@dpk262006 Our wedding in the Church was at 11 am. After the ceremony we all went (with our guests) to have lunch in a nice hotel, we talked and stayed with the guest until around 5 pm and then everybody left to go home.

Wow, I would love to see an Indian wedding. Here not all - but most people get married during the day. They have their ceremony in the afternoon - saving evening for a meal and reception party

You mean to say that families of bride and groom may organize the weddings either during day or night, as it is their choice. If wedding ceremonies are taking full days, it means that wedding ceremonies would have started during day itself.
You would go either of the weddings, irrespective of its timing, as you like such events.

Here normally the wedding will hold for a whole day. In day time it is the time for the bridegroom to pick up the bride with the best man and other good friends and relatives. Then they will serve tea for the senior relatives and parents. After lunch, they will prepare for the night dinner in the hotel or restaurant. And the ceremony will be over after dinner, but some couples may also want to have another party after that.

Basically, marriages at your place take place during day time. However, the dinner is served during night so it makes it a whole day ceremony.
Do you like this arrangement?

Time is immaterial when it comes to weddings here and ti's festive too. We have garden weddings, beach weddings, etc. People don't usually want an evening wedding since guests don't want to stay up late.
