The gas station incident

This happened months ago. There were three of them in the car - my mom, dad, and youngest sister, E.
They were on the way to another city about an hour away and stopped for gas. Dad got out to fill the tank, mom went out to get some stuff from the mini mart. Mom got in, then E remembered she wanted something from the mini mart too and so she got out.
Tank was full, dad got in and off they went. After 3-4 kilometers away, mom's phone rang. Wait that's strange...it was E's number...
*Gasp*
"We left E at the gas station!"
That was probably the most hilarious thing my parents have ever done. We still tease E about her being temporarily abandoned at the gas station.
Ever heard of such stories? Or has it ever happened to you?

Wow. Your sister must be so frightened being abandoned like that. Thank God for mobile phones. Something similar happened to me.
My three years old daughter and another six years old daughter were traveling with me on the MRT train in Singapore. We were already on the platform waiting for the train to arrive. When the train arrived, my six years old daughter was so excited that she boarded the train first.
I was busy with my three years old daughter and my bags that I was late getting on the train and the train left with me still on the platform and my older daughter on the train. She genuinely looked frightened. I immediately went to the control centre and related my problem.
They contacted the people at the next train stop and my daughter was taken off the train to wait for me to fetch her. It was quite an experience for her and me. I was so grateful to the other passengers on the train who had comforted and calmed her down and the personnels at both the train stations were very helpful too.
We laughed about the incident now and like you, my daughter gets teased about it all the time. She's 21 now.

@cahaya1983 You can't imagine how worried I was. But this wasn't an isolated incident. This daughter of mine had the knack of getting herself left behind or rather leaving me behind when we went out together.

@UmiNoor That sounds like one of my younger cousins. He got lost in the shopping mall twice (separate occasions) when he was small.

Oh wow I can't imagine how worried you must be at the time! So glad to know nothing bad happened, although I'm sure it must be an unforgettable incident for you and your daughter.
My sister's 22 years old and she had her cellphone with her so I guess the situation wasn't that bad, plus it was broad daylight.

Yeah pretty similar! The difference was that my sister was the only one sitting in the backseat of the car!

@yanzalong I find it very funny. I think she didn't realize that my sister went outside because it was probably at the same time that she (my mom) got inside the car.

a few times. way back when my youngest was 5yrs. , my hubby at the time, took all my kids and some others over to a party at one of the church deacons house and when he brought them back. my youngest was missing. after searching every where we realized he had left him at their house. even funnier was when hubby went back to get him, no one was home! finally they brought him and explained they had all went out for ice cream and to bring him back at the same time.

That is quite hilarious indeed and scary for your sister of course
I heard i have been in the same situation once, in the mall, i was still small. Both my parents thought i was with the other parent, and when they found me i was crying in the middle of the aisle. Good thing no one kidnapped me

Oh wow, I'm sure you were so scared and all. Glad nothing happened to you though!
Yeah lucky my parents weren't too far away from the gas station when they realized they had "forgotten" my sister.

@Hannihar I would probably be a little upset at first but I know I would laugh about it later too. Glad she wasn't at some deserted or dangerous place, that would have been scary.

That is sad in a sense that they forgot her. I know it is not on purpose and yes, good things no robbers. It took me a little bit to get about the crooks after reread what I said.

She's 22 years old, so fortunately she's old enough to know what to do. She actually found the whole thing funny too.

Yes, a friend of mine told me this happened to her sister, but this was before smart phones. So it was anxious time as they went back to the station.

@MarshaMusselman That is true. Fortunately in my family we've memorized each other's number. Plus most of us have always had the same number.

@cahaya1983 The main problem with that happening is that not everyone in the family knows all the other family members cell phones. Most of us are used to hitting the name desired on our contacts and not dialing them ourselves. Because of that if anyone is left behind and didn't have their cells with them it could be a lot longer before the missing person was noticed.

Yeah I don't know what she would do if her phone was left in the car. Probably ask the cashier if she could use the phone.
