A week or two ago we visited Ravensthorpe in south-east Western Australia. We lived there for a few years when we were first married and actually followed a kangaroo up the main street one day. It was a bit of a wild west town in those days. Half an hour to the south down a gravel road was the tiny port of Hopetoun which is now on the eastern edge of the Fitzgerald National Park.
We had some wonderful weekends camping in coastal areas to the west of Hopetoun. The local identities had carved their own tracks to some incredible beaches. Now, these tracks are sign-posted though still only suitable for four-wheel drive. There is also an entry fee to enter the park.
The photo shows Quoin Head which is accessed by a very steep and rocky track. We were the only ones there at the time although two more vehicles arrived before we left. To the right of the photo is a little clump of trees where we erected our tents for a couple of nights over one New Year back in the 1970s. In another post I’ll put up the photo of a sea-eagles nest which can be seen from the same point.
While there I also picked up about a dozen pieces of cuttle-fish for my sister for her cage birds.

It was very enjoyable under the trees. The kids were all small and had a wonderful time.

That water looks so clear and blue, and very refreshing and inviting! Did you go swimming while you were there?

@Madshadi We have been very lucky to be able to visit a few 'wild' places when we were younger that are now popular tourist attractions with all the rules and regulations that need to be imposed on such places. Progress isn't always for the best.

This could easily be one of the beaches in the Hopetoun area. How interesting is that?

@JudyEv That's beautiful... but strange - is it an animal that lives in a shell?

The water looks very inviting! The most gorgeous seas side area I ever saw was Big Sur in California. It is incredibly beautiful..but I bet OZ has some fantastic areas as well!

The water is cold. I don't know if there are rips or strong currents there. I'm not a strong swimmer so I wouldn't like to go swimming there but it could be perfectly okay.

It's nice to go back isn't it? Our boys were only small last time we were here. We had a Subaru 4-wheel drive and a camper trailer. The ranger hung around until we got up over the hill on our way out to make sure we didn't get stuck.
