Chocolates, Flowers and Jewelry.

A white sports car decorated with a big red bow, and reclining in the passenger seat - a big white teddy bear - also wearing a red bow. It was Valentine's Day and the car was parked just in front of the building I had just exited. It was obviously a surprise Valentine gift for one lucky lady who worked in that building , and I couldn't help smiling when I imagined the joy on her face upon receiving such a gift. Back in the day, the kind of gifts I received were chocolates, flowers, books or a piece of jewelry. These days, It will still be flowers, books or chocolates - but I'll be the one buying them. Valentine's Day is just fifteen days away - will you be doing anything special ?. Is it just another day for you? What kind of gifts do you usually give or receive?

I doubt I will be doing anything. If I do something it will be for myself. My ex would take me out if I wanted to go more than likely but that ship sailed a long time ago, as far as I am concerned.

@Kandae11 Not a one!!! The older you are the harder it is to meet a good guy it seems..Most of them are overly concerned with protecting their wallet!

I'll be doing something, but no idea what as my boyfriend always has me pick but I haven't decided yet. I'm not a big fan of flowers or jewelry, so mostly get chocolates and giftcards to places I like. lol. But have gotten a few necklaces, a bracelet, and flowers in the past. I've given him cologne, and shirts / hats of his favorite football teams.

It is just another day . We have never followed this day. But I will never forget it as it was on Valentine's day I had met with that accident 12 years ago.

@Kandae11 But that accident made me realise so many things. I even wrote an article on that with a title Happy Moments.

It would most likely be a man who wants to impress and keep a lady lover. Could also be a husband who has the money - and really loves his wife.

We refuse to celebrate "commercial" holidays. We prefer to have a "special day" when we both feel happy, relaxed, the weather is nice and decide to go out dining together. When I was young I received flowers.

We don't do gifts, but almost always go out to dinner at our favorite place. I do buy flowers for Anne fairly often in winter since she enjoys them so much and ours are not blooming.

We don't, honestly, I love my husband every day and he treats me like a queen, I want for nothing so I am not going to waste money on a created holiday. Last year we went out for dinner and that is rare, not going out to dinner, going out on Valentine's Day.

@Kandae11 Let's see, I have a bear that I've had since I was 11 so I guess that opens up the door to lots of chocolate.

We didn't have Valentines in Australia when I was young so it has never really achieved any sort of importance for me - or for Vince. I pretty much see it as just another opportunity for traders to part people from their money. Sometimes I might get chocolates but it doesn't worry me if I don't. I'd rather he was kind and thoughtful throughout the year - which he is.

@Ganma7 Wonderful! Indeed it engenders quite a bit of commercial activity - by February 14th I am quite fed up with the many red and white gift items in the stores and on the streets.

As I'm older I find that it's not a big deal anymore if I get anything or nothing on Valentine's day from my special someone. All that matters is that we have a happy, honest, and supportive relationship. But of course, I'd be very delighted if he will think about giving me something fancy or taking me out on a date. The joys of a woman are very simple.

Cool! Every day is Valentine's Day for me. We have special plans this year. Gifts have ranged from jewelry to vacations to far off lands, flowers, a card, and/or chocolates. I'm happy with just having my husband and being together. Our best gift ever was the birth of our grandson on Valentine's Day. Can't top that!

Its just another day for me and I don't receive gifts on Valentine's. I give my mother some chocolates or flowers though and we usually just eat out with family and some relatives to celebrate, a day before or after Valentine's day because Feb 14 is so busy most restaurants are full.
