Few Responses? -- But you haven't wasted your time.

You write about a subject which you are very passionate about. It is well written and in your view - a perfect discussion topic - but alas! , it engenders very few responses and you feel as though you have wasted your time. However , not to worry. That discussion did not receive the responses you expected - but it was most likely read and digested by many. Of course, there is no way of knowing how many viewed and probably read, since there is no listing of views here , but sometimes we read discussions and for one reason or another would rather not comment. So do you often read through discussions and leave no response? What are some of the reasons why you would hesitate to respond?

I only read discussions that catch my eye or from those I know well so I leave a comment 99% of the time and always give a like.

I always respond one way or another.Never leave it blank. If I do not understand the discussion then I will ask the person to explain it to me.

@amadeo Same here too. Some discussions I find too dense to understand.

I have done that too - ask for an explanation, because I would much rather respond.

It makes me feel sad when I have a good discussion and get few response. I don't respond if I don't understand clearly what the discussion is about

At least you won't feel too bad if you could see the number of views you received - like I said, sometimes we read but do not respond. And I suppose that will be discouraging to the writer.

yes, i read the responses and comments and like them, but sometimes have nothing to add because others have said it already, and even worded them better, but i still learned something from it, or from the people who responded and commented.

It happens, but only a few times. I go through a discussion and I find nothing nice to comment. Better to go away and write nothing.

I think that success cannot always be measured in numbers but also in the satisfaction and pleasure it gives us. I have read some discussions where I have nothing to say or nothing I want to say.

I have done that at times - probably more times than I am willing to admit . I do try to comment to all that I've read, but sometimes there is just nothing to say. Or I might feel that my comment might be too harsh or very much against the grain. Just trying to keep the peace .

It doesn't bother me, I just come to think that I cannot "please" all of the people all of the time. Its a give and take situation also, I am not always online and the same holds true for others.

Sometimes it's hard to add a comment when what I would say had already been said many times over so I just add a like. It's rare though that I won't comment on a post I've taken the time to read

When that happens I would say - I agree with the response made by @marilyndal1225 - and I may or may not add a few more words.

It isn't often that I don't leave a response but sometimes I don't have anything to add. Many of the music posts I know nothing about the artist or the music so I'm often stuck for words on those posts. Same with American sport posts.

I read the discussions from my followers who are interacting with me and those posts that interest me. I will not comment if I have nothing to say or I didn't understand what I have read. But it is very seldom.

Generally, if I read a discussion carefully, then I would go for response. If the title or the beginning of a discussion does not appeal me, I won't even read it.

I read every discussion I have responded to. Quite often, I read others views as well and offer my unsolicited opinion because my ego says do it..you are smart. But at times, work interferes, or Internet. I am bad. If the net intervenes, I never NEVER go back to the same post, because I am superstitious. I feel it will go again. So at times yes...I would have read the post, fully or half way, but not responded.

Wow! that is an explanation indeed. I have been experiencing problems for over a year now with my internet service - I may be in the middle of reading a post and it goes off. When it returns, if I go back to the post would depend on if it was interesting or if it was a post of a member who interacts with me . My internet's behavior is in firm control.

Yes, sometimes I do just read a discussion starter and pass on actually commenting on it. There are several reasons I might pass on a discussion... Once in a while I find a discussion that was written by someone who did not learn American English as their first language... MOST of the time, I understand what that person was writing about and make a comment... But I have come across one or two that make no sense to me at all. If I know the person who wrote it, I may explain that I don't understand. If they are new to me, I usually won't leave any comment. (It's safer that way.) Sometimes, I am just not interested after I've read the discussion starter. And, sometimes, I can't think of anything to say. (I know, hard to believe, right?)

Often times I read discussions that catches my interest and most likely since its interesting for me I have some inputs/ ideas I'd like to share and so I comment or respond. Though there are times when my mind appears to be devoid of any opinion about a certain topic I might end up not responding to it at all or for no reason I just don't feel like it, but that is very seldom.
