Where there's a will there's a way. You can do anything, if you put your mind to it. Is that true? Willpower has been described as energetic determination to achieve a goal or a desire such as lose some weight, become healthier, stop a bad habit or start a good habit like starting an exercise program. Is there something that you would like to achieve? Is there something that you really want bad enough? What drives you to accomplish something? A strong desire can provide the fire. So, is there a will and a power in willpower?

I fully agree with what @Kandae11 said and she gave a perfect example, I add another one, I would never be able to do a marathon and finish it.

There is power in willpower - but yet there are somethings which cannot be achieved - even if we have the will.

I see! Can you give examples of some things that cannot be achieved?

If there's a will, there's a way. The will has to be there. Of course, there are some things that are unreasonable to do or try, even if the will is there.

If we really want to do something then give it a try. Who knows what can happen.

@DianneN Congratulations! You have earned your supper tonight. Yes, desire starts the fire but then one has to add wood to keep it going.

@1hopefulman I agree, but like I said, you have to want or have the desire to give something a try. Who knew I'd win my tennis game today? Lol!

But it has to be within the range of your "God-given" talent. I may play more jazz bass. And you may write the next "Great American Novel." But neither of us will win a slam dunk contest.

Yes, if its Gods will, he will give you the power to accomplish what you set out to do. Plus when I mention I want to do this or that and someone tells me that its impossible for me, a woman , to do that I get even more determined to prove them wrong.

I'm sorry. I'm 5'8" tall and not as good a jumper as I was when I was 25. Even God can't help me win a slam dunk contest. But "s/he" has guided me to many baseball and softball championships. I think one has to be realistic when they set goals.

@1hopefulman Do you agree that our goals have to be realistic? If I set a goal to start publishing academic papers again, I could achieve it. If I set a goal to win a marathon, I could not.

Much can be done when we have the desire and the will. We will find the power.

Yes there is Willpower. You can do what you want if you try. But sometimes we have to work extra hard and that makes some want to take an easier path. That's what I decided to do, take it easy. I believe I can achieve, but I'm not going to pressurize myself. Just keep working on my goals little by little and keep up the enthusiasm. And research the what I need to do to achieve them. But when you ask for help with some things, people don't seem to know a thing, not even people who were successful.

When I told someone that I loved that I was going to try to get a sales job, I was told I would never makes it as a salesman. They didn't know me as well as they thought. I bought this book on sales and was inspired. I was on sales most of my life and I loved it. Set a goal and go for it!

Yes, there is both 'will' and 'power in will'. 'Will' is an intention that is both a formulation to act and an intention to take action. 'Power in will' is the ability to execute it. What drives both is the DESIRE to the degree you want something to take place.

Nice explanation! If we want to accomplish something we need both, the will and the power. Anything you are working on? I was going to bed too late and so now I am trying to be in bed by 11 PM and have the will but I'm working on the power.

The essence of a persons will is more a measure of their attention. if a person is 'Paying" attention they are more acutely engaging the task or topic at hand and the resulting out come is the result of ones will power. So Will Power and Attention, a force of nature percieved by peoplekind (yeah i used it ) but not yet fully understood or measured by modern society as we are simply to distracted to .... Pay attention ;)

Peoplekind? Would't it be better just to say people? I think is sounds better. I appreciate your input but I think the "will" in willpower is more than attention but rather a strong drive to accomplish something.

@1hopefulman LOL Sorry i guess our Current laugh at our Prime Misinsters new term hasnt made it as far as it seems here. lol i was poking fun at the blunder . And I agree that will power is a drive that is different but i think they are not as exclusive as most people may rhink. After all you can't will power starts with the decision to take action and stick to it .I can tell my self that is what ill do all day long if i don't actuklly pay what ever the goal is any attention then my will isnt very powerful in terms of results. but potatoe potatoe at this point . i was simply going to the perspective of wisdom in common sayings

I believe that if you want something bad enough, sometimes you can able to do it. But I also agree that there are limitations. Like me for example I have mild cerebral palsy so there is some things I can't physically do.

Yes, not all things can be done. However, the impossible is done by those that view their goal as possible. If we don't try then we are defeated before we start.

There are some power in willpower but I think It is limited, we are humans and there are always other powers that interact with ours and change everything.

Yes, I think so. I think the term is actually in accurate because just because you will something, doesn't mean it will happen. You need to add the power to the will to actually accomplish anything!

Yes, it starts with the will, but it needs the power. No power, no shower! Is there anything that you want to accomplish that you are working on?
