Would you wear dentures if you had to?

This might seem like a strange question but today I saw a friend I haven't seen for a long time. She is in her 40s but completely toothless since I last saw her.
She explained that she had gum disease and had all her teeth removed because of it but found dentures so uncomfortable that she decided she would rather not wear them.
I was polite of course but I actually thought that if it was me I would persevere and get used to my denture rather than age myself 20 years as she really did look much older than she actually was and couldn't really talk properly.
What would you do? Would you wear a denture for cosmetic purposes or walk around toothless?

@much2say I think most people would wear them because it makes them look better but certainly it would be hard to chew without teeth.

@sprite1950 Dentures would be practical for sure . . . but definitely being able to have a confident smile helps!

@much2say Yes, my sister has very unsightly teeth and I'm always nagging her to get them fixed but she is scared of the dentist.

@sprite1950 Yuck! I would lose my appetite!
I know some people do eat without them, but I can't imagine it being very satisfying.

@peavey I suppose it's what we get used to. Humans can adjust to most things if they have to.

@peavey Some people seem to find it more comfortable to chew without them. I seem to remember my granny taking hers out at the dinner table. I was young at the time and thought nothing of it but now I would find it quite gross!

@sprite1950 You remind me of the old women in our neighborhood who don't know there are things like dentures.

No it's very unflattering. My friend looked so much older than when I last saw her.

@sprite1950 I know how much older my mom looked when she removed the dentures to go to sleep.

@jaboUK I know I couldn't be seen without teeth. I like to look my best and it is very ageing because the gums and lips tend to shrink.

@vsai2008 Dentures are much better and more natural looking than they used to be.

@sprite1950 I agree with you, esthetics have improved a lot and there is actually no reason to not to wear them

@vsai2008 I have a friend who told me her front four were false but I would never have known it. They looked so real.

I would wear the dentures. I had to have my teeth pulled and get dentures I have full dentures on top and a partial on bottom. I would never go around without them.

@sprite1950 Sure is. I was glad when I got them after having my teeth pulled because it made me not feel comfortable when it came to being in public around people.

@Tina30219 My sister has terrible teeth but she won't do anything about them. They must give her pain.

Hey Tina good to see you here! Dentures are pretty realistic looking these days, it's hard to tell that they are artificial.

@Shavkat Dental implants sound painful but they have gone down in cost and I've heard it is like having your own teeth.

@sprite1950 It is, my friend. I do agree that it is quite pricey.

I haven't wore my dentures in months, though mom kept reminding me to wear, I don't. I might think of cleaning it first before using it.

@nela13 my mum lost all her teeth at a young age. She took them out at night. I don't know what my dad thought!

@nela13 I know. They got divorced eventually. Maybe that's why!
