Finally Thawing

The weather where I live is quite different from the south where I grew up. There are frequently negative temperatures in the winter which keep dropping lower with the wind chill and even when it is in the positive digits the wind chill pushes the temperature into the negative. I'm about 50 yard from Lake Michigan and it's amazing to see how it freezes in the winter. With the wind whipping around it's not unusual that the water gets pushed up over bridges and even lighthouses until everything is covered in sheets of ice. I found a picture of what it looks like. But thank goodness things are finally thawing out. For the first time today I could see water instead of just ice.

I love it as well. Unfortunately, as beautiful as it is, it takes really cold weather to produce it!

I'm so glad I live here instead, I'd be hibernating if it got that cold here.

That picture is quite beautiful. We are having a very cold snap in the UK but it's better here today and I can see that we are starting a thaw so everything should be getting back to normal in the next few days .. I hope!

Hope your weather gets better soon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we won't have another brutal cold snap. How cold does it usually get in the UK where you are?

@writereditor We've had an unusually hard winter this year. Scotland and the north of the country get it the worst but I suppose it's been around -5 where I live which compared to some countries is nothing. We're very wimpy here about the cold! I just looked out the window and much of it has thawed although there will be floods in some regions.

Very! Hope it continues but there's no telling. We could have another snow storm as late as the end of April maybe even early May!

I'm glad it's thawing there in Chicago land. We're thawed out up here, but we're getting another dose of snow this next week.

@writereditor True. It will be interesting to see how much snow we end up with. They showed the European model and the local model and both show we're getting snow over the next three days, very similar to each other.

That's what's so tough around this area - it may look like Spring is here and the calander might even say that Spring is here but then all bets are off when another snow storm decides to roll on in

I found it striking also. There are a lot of great pictures I've seen though there are also a lot of fake one like these giant green blue striped icebergs that were in fact take in the arctic. Just a local urban legend

I lived on one of the Great lakes and in winter the whole back of my house was covered by ice. It was an interesting winter. I don't live by the water now but just seeing the snow is awesome too.

Wow - that's incredible. I still can't believe what happens here in the winter when the lake does crazy things. I do like seeing the snow though, as long as I don't have to be out in it.

It looks beautiful and also quite desolate, like hell. What part of the south are you from?
