Things you keep that have no purpose

I decided to have a bit of a clear out
and started with the two drawers that
tend to serve as a dumping ground for
random stuff!
Among the things I found was the key
to my parents old house. My parents
died a few years ago and the house was
sold so this key has no use whatsoevver
I couldn't bring myself to chuck it away!
It feels like the last link I have to the only
place I ever really called home!
What random things have you kept that
have absolutely zero purpose or value
and why do you still have them?

I can never part with old photos
either! I have some from my parents
and grandparents! There's hundreds
I have no idea who the people are! but
like you I can't bring myself to part with
them.
My auntie took a lot from my mums side
and scanned copies for each of us she
thankfully added all the names that she
knew.
I recently met my mums cousins daughter
through a Facebook post looking for family
members on a page from my home town!
Thanks to my auntie I was able to send her
some photos of her dad, gran and great gran.
I knew very little about that side of the
family so it was nice to connect with them.

Yeah I do that with various things, keys, Zippo lighters that were engraved, old things I made at work and was allowed to keep. But eventually most things go in trash because really hate having to much stuff lying around that has no purpose.

@crossbones27 Haha the downside is
I chuck stuff then realise I need it a few
weeks later!

I have many items I should throw away but for some reason I keep them. Why do we do that? For me, in some cases it might have a sentimental value, but in most cases it does not. I have clothes I've held onto way to long

Two things I've kept that have no purpose, but are priceless in their sentimental value are both of my daughters original birth certificates. The cards that the hospital staff put on the nursery your baby occupies after birth to identify them. These cards contain information about the baby such as date of birth, time of birth, weight, length, head measurement and the name of the doctor who delivered her.
One of my daughters is 28, the other is 23. I've kept those cards all these years.

Those are things I think most
people would struggle to part with! My mum
kept our hospital cards along with stuff like
our first baby booties, and small silver cups
we were given as christening presents.
There was a shoebox full of little baby items
I was disappointed that I couldn't find it when
we emptied the house.

@Starmaiden I think it's lovely that
you've kept them safe all this time!
I'd love to know where ours went as
I couldn't imagine my mum chucking
them out.

@Essjayd I moved so many times that much of those things were lost, but I keep those cards in my bible and that goes where I go. :-)
