Simplicity

Hello! I was just thinking lately about my life. I am living on my own, I have a family who loves the worst and best in me, I am living the kind of life I want, and I am able to do the things that make me happy. All in all, the simplicity of life that I have been longing for is what I have right now. Others will not be so happy with the kind of life I have.
Since I was young, I was taught to see the simplicity in everything. Please do not get me wrong. Just like everybody else, I dreamed of having a big house, tons of cars and even lots of money to buy whatever I want but then I have no desire to have many of those and they are meaningless to me.
Simplicity is being contented yet not stopping oneself to do the things that make you happy. Simplicity is not wanting for more but allowing oneself to grow better as a person. Simplicity is the reason I do not let my life be out in the open. I am just that regular, ordinary person who lives her day with animosity and happiness.
So I guess that's it. I am happy to see some members here talk about simplicity. So I am just adding mine.
How about you guys? What is your take on simplicity? Your thoughts are highly appreciated. Thank you!

You've said it all. I have been saying this to anyone that cares to listen "I don't want to be Bill Gates" and his likes. I don't want any attractions. I just want to live a very quiet life. A very simple life with cash to take care of my daily needs and I'll be fine.

Thank you, Amaka. That's it! I think many people will never understand the reasons why we chose this kind of life. Being simple does not mean we stopped living and doing things.

I get what you are saying here and agree but going to suggest using another rich person, yeah i know he is on top of the list but he and his wife have spent some of their money actually helping people which might be rewarding. Pick a miserable greedy one for more effect?

I enjoy the simple life also. Some people would consider me a monk or hermit because I keep to myself. I don't have the need to acquire status or prominence in my life. To just be me is my everyday goal. :-)

I feel you, Lucinda. Maybe most people will never understand the choices we makes. Or maybe others are just mystified at how we live our lives.

@Starmaiden I am sure they will. Better if they stuck their noses in their own lives than being mystified of other people's lives.

@mlgen1037 Thanks so much, Louise. I was just being honest. I love fine things, even though they are just things. As long as we are healthy and happy, too, we are good.

I would love the simplicity of a peaceful quiet life. I think you have the right idea about the important thing in life. I believe it is the little things that matter most. The love of a family, a roof over your head, and your bills paid.

@Bluedoll possible they can really be enticing as well. I think now that I am older, buying stuff often do not warrant long time happiness. Bonding time with loved ones is. Youre most welcome, my friend.

@MALUSE thats fantastic! Maybe simplicity stems from our upbringing but there are people who grew up with not much and they tend to want more since they experienced less. Thank you for sharing.

To me I love my life but what I dream of is to have my own house. I don't like living with my in laws. It's not pleasant.
Sometimes I cried to god and pray that he realize this dream. I don't want big but a small house I could call mine and most live important to be able to live in peace.

That is okay to dream and be able to achieve something that we want. Besides, a house is a necessity. I agree with you. It is hard to live with relatives because not all of them can be that hospitable and it is hard to move or do the things you want to do. I am pray that your dream will come true. Just trust the one above. Thank you, Babes. I appreciate it.

Kind of reminds me of Zen way of living. I've read some posts, of being thankful too. Sometimes you need that to remind yourself, sure I don't have a million in my savings, but I got a lot to be thankful for while still striving for that million dollars. I like uncomplicated life. When you go shopping you find everything you want and get it all on sale. Simplicity is great...it's what makes you and your family happy & healthy that's good.

I do get your point. We always equate achievements with grandiosity or too much showing off because I believe that is what society had instilled in us. I agree with you that society respect people who show-off themselves. But that is the secret, I guess, of simplicity. That you do not need to show-off and be happy even if the world do not care. That is why I mentioned animosity. Because I do not want the world to know. Isnt it ironic that those who show-off are so mystified of those simple people?
