If life has taught me anything at all, it is never to discuss two things with other people: religion and politics. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing though. All I know is that everyone is entitled to their own opinions so I try not to force anybody into following me.
How about you guys ? Do you discuss religion and politics with other people ?

Only if that other person brings it up. If I feel that the other person only wants to be "right" and doesn't keep an open mind during discussion, I will walk away from it. :-)

I don't tend to discuss politics much, but religion, I sometimes cannot help because it is shoved in my face all the freaking time. I talk about both with my mom a lot because we agree a lot on many things. I don't tend to get into a lot of debates, but will if someone is trying to change my mind, I like listening to both sides and debating and maybe hear why someone really thinks the way they do.

@august18 it is good to listen and give an opinion or just listen. It all depends on who it is you are talking to.

One thing is to discuss and quite another to argue. I discuss both politics and religion with my offline friends. I try not to do it here as cultures vary a lot.

2,000 years in the future, my incarnation of the time is in a heated battle with someone else over their religion. After this civilization was destroyed in the upcoming wars, very few religious texts survived and he insists that his religion of Hogwarts and its god, Harry Potter, is the real deal! However, I have been trying to tell him that it was just a story someone wrote once... but he fails to listen.
You really can't be rational with people once they are convinced something is real!

@august18 As I always say: "Religion is Dangerous." "It's fine to practice as long as you keep it off the table (don't make others have to see it)." "Keep your faith to yourself." and "Religion should be destroyed for mankind's benefit."
Politicians should also go extinct. The world would be better off.

Certainly not on here as it always ends in tears and rarely in the real world as people can't agree and end up falling out.
