My reason for leaving.

A couple of years after becoming a full fledged reporter I realized that I was not cut out for the job - I was not tough enough. Shocking, disturbing news left me depressed for days - and I didn't have the option like the ordinary bystander to read or not to read , or to skim over graphic details. As a reporter, my job was to investigate, research and write the news - so there was no escape for me. The last straw came when I myself became a victim . I decided it was time I left that part of the news world and choose an area which was a bit safer. Of course, I have toughened up considerably over the years, but some news items still leave me depressed. If you were given a huge salary and perks would you take a job you dislike? What kind of job you absolutely would not do? I think I would hate being a prison warder.

I would not like to work in a Hospital, especially in the ER ward.

I don't think there's anything that I wouldn't 'try' @Kandae11 but I do have to say that when I was a truck driver, it was good money and benefits, but I always had a sore butt. I always wanted to be a police officer but back in the day (70's), you had to be something other than 'white'. By the time I would have been chosen, I didn't want to really do it any more. And what really made me mad is that I passed ALL the tests but the female 'others' didn't and they still got hired.

You were a truck driver? - awesome. I wanted to be a police officer up to when I was seven years old - now I am mortified at the thought.

@nanette64 Wow! that is quite a list. My first job was that of a reporter, then I moved on to the Government information services. And from there to the diplomatic services overseas. Now I write freelance and run my own business.

I have always found my way out of jobs I disliked. I try to trick myself into liking them, but in the end, it is impossible to do so. The stress levels just aren't worth it. I'm not very good at connecting my mind (where my talent is) with the world where I don't have much talent. The only times when people can actually see a part of it is when I do puzzles.

I agree with you there - "the stress levels just aren't worth it". I would prefer working at a job with less pay than a high paying one which will lead me over the brink.

@OneOfMany Being in the army is tough enough physically - adding the stress of office politics to that can't be good.

Oh wow. At first reporter sounds interesting and exciting, but its true - you have to report on all the tragic stuff, too. Sorry you became victim :( No, I don't think I would do any job I hated even with tons of money. Unless I could quit right away. I would hate working in health care or researching diseases

Even though I have several family members in the medical field I could not be a nurse or doctor. Not only is the work demanding and stressful, I don't see myself being able to deal with wounds, pain and blood and guts. Plus sick people or those in pain are often not nice to be around.

I always took jobs I really didn't like only because I had to support myself. They didn't put me into any kind of danger but I would have preferred to do something different. For me the worst kind of job would be a Crime Scene Investigator, I doubt I'd ever get over looking as horrid scenes where someone was brutally murdered.

Our friend was a prison warden, he loved it! A job that I'd never do? Work in a bank, dealing with other people's money. Also, working as a waitress is terrible, taking the heat for a food item that's not exactly right.

I was actually a prison guard for a short time and while I won't say it was the worst job, it was a dirty job, I believe you should do what you like but in most cases we work for a living, to keep a roof over our heads and feed our children so we make sacrifices. The job may not be what we want but we do it until we can find something better the bills must be paid
