There was more to 'Bhel Puri' than eating it

'Bhel Puri' in my life was always associated with an outing mostly to the Beach. I would wait for the week end and off we went on a Saturday evening to the beach that was not so far away. The beach would be normally crowded and that was the added feature. I liked that cacophony - kids playing around, not to the miss them enjoying camel rides. There would be loads testing the waves while we sat on the mounds of sand watching and chatting. The 'bhel puri' guy would know we would surely surround his cart and order our stuff choosing the dressings that suited us. This was followed by 'kulfi' and tender coconut. The ambiance is what I enjoyed more than the Bhel Puri

I do like going to nearby beaches. I hope I can do it soon. Take some photos if you go there on weekend.

Are your outings to the beach any different?

@allknowing I think there is no difference. But then, talking with the locals can make me feel relax. It is just a getaway for me to escape the busy life.

They sound like fun outings. Do you still live near the beach?

Here the beach experience is different. Yes. We have a couple of them close by.

There is nothing better than a trip to the beach. Your foods are so exotic to me.

Those were simple joys and I just looked forward to them.

I used to indulge with gay abandon in my younger days eating with relish at the beach. Now I am more circumspect - the innocence of my younger days replaced with suspicion about the hygiene et al! siva

We all sail in the same boat I bet I have made Bhel Puri at home for the same reason but trust me it never tasted the same as we got at the beach.

@allknowing They may have some special ingredients better we are not made aware of! I recall some mouth-watering food from my younger days but they now fall into the category of the unhealthy to be avoided. Dalda, a brand of hydrogenated vegetable oil, used to enhance the flavour of dosas but they are taboo now. No wonder children ask why all the tastiest foods are unhealthy! siva

@Shiva49 Nowadays it is olive oil or sun flower oil that is recommended. My mother lived to a ripe old age of 92. She survived on coconut oil.
