High heels and holding a new born baby

When a smiling Kate Middleton emerged from the hospital holding the new born royal baby just 7 hours after giving birth, everyone was talking about how good she looked. I on the other hand, marveled at the fact that she wore high heels while holding a new born baby who was just a few hours old. I shuddered to think if she had tripped walking down those stone stairs. Whew! she made it! Things have really changed from the time I gave birth. To begin with you didn't leave the hospital for 2 to three days and if you had a C section it could be longer. Today women are leaving within 24 hours of giving birth but most of us normal people still wear pumps or comfortable shoes. Walking out of the hospital down stairs, teetering on 6 inch heels with baby in tow seems precarious to say the least. But this is royalty and they probably have to look royal all the time. Would anyone have complained if she had worn pumps? Of course not. Even if I wanted to leave the hospital 24 hours after giving birth It would have been mandatory to sit in a wheelchair and wheeled by a hospital attendant to a waiting vehicle. Anyway, congratulations to the happy Royal couple on the birth of baby #3 high heels and all. Photo is of Kate when she gave birth to Prince George. She also wore heels then.

I went out of the hospital after 24 hours of giving birth because it was hospital protocol to let the mother stay for at least 24 hours. If I were given the choice I would have left earlier. I went out of the hospital Monday, I went to take my final exams on Tuesday. And I didn't look like I just gave birth or I was ever pregnant at all because the only weight I gained during pregnancy was my baby's weight.

@nela13 Oh why was that? I didn't have any complications when I was pregnant and during labor. Everything went quick for me. I was in and out of the delivery room in 30 minutes.

You are one of the lucky ones. These these days they let the mothers out early, not so in my time.

@toniganzon the same with me, I only gained my babies weight but I didn't go out of the hospital in 24 hours because my blood pressure was too low.

I'd be on the floor in seconds if I tried to wear those kinds of heels. In my opinion they are really stupid no matter how sexy guys think they are. Dad once told us a story of what he witnessed when he served in Korea back in the early 1960s, he'd been watching people working in the rice fields and had noticed a couple of the women were pregnant then one of them disappeared for a little while and when she stood up again she had a baby in her arms and was wrapping it in a papoose kinda thing that she put on her back and she went right back to work in the rice field. It stunned him I think. The funny thing is that pioneer women had babies without any help from any doctor. Now women rely on doctors as if they were the ones who invented child birth.

My mom had all her 4 children at home without the help of a doctor. My grandmother and aunts were the ones who helped with the delivery

Midwives are better than doctors for normal births @Freelanzer

@rebelann I believe that but they make it so difficult for midwives to do their jobs today

@Freelanzer Congrats Kate and William and George I think it is on the birth of a new born baby. I could never walk in heels. I guess she is used to it.

I suppose that is the price one pays for being a Royal and always being watched by the public and press. Congratulations on the birth of the new royal.

It is indeed a price to pay. When I leave the hospital with my babies no one is watching me and no one cares

I would be afraid I may fall and hurt the baby. Not safe for her or the baby.

It is hard work to give birth unless you are superhuman. Of course we need our rest after, But I guess they couldn't keep the crowds waiting too long.

I am not a fan of high heels these days.As you said,it was rather dangerous to wear high heels while holding the baby and climbing down the stairs.

I would rather choose safety and comfort over style especially when holding a child

Back in the day I was wheeled out of the hospital wearing the flats I wore on my way in. Lol! My daughter in law was barefoot, only because she decided to have her second child in a pool of water in her living room. Times have certainly changed!

My mother was in hospital for a week when she had her twins but that was back in 1938. Times have certainly changed.

I am not a fan of high heels and I would never wear it after having birth and holding my baby, but I am just a normal woman

Another normal woman here - I would not put my baby's life in danger, Then perhaps she is an experienced high heels walker

I walked almost like a duck after giving birth to any of my kids for about a week or so. Royals are different to us I guess .
