Manicured

I get manicures and pedicures regularly. I've been doing it for over 20 years at a few salons. I used to do them myself, but didn't enjoy the process. I always bring my own tools when I go to nail salons. Now the salons I visit have disposable tools, too. I prefer short, square shaped nails, although I did go through a long nail phase years ago. I have extremely strong, healthy fingernails and toenails. I used to get OPI brand nail polish on my fingernails. Now, I use it for pedicures only. I discovered gel nails and loved how much longer the polish lasted. However, I've made a new discovery with powdered dips. They last so long and never chip! I've gotten French dip manicures in Florida, which have lasted one month plus! It's difficult to see the nail growth with them. Back home in Connecticut, I've found that not all salons offer dip manicures. My usual salon does dips, but not French manicure dips. So now I have a blue dip and will look for a different salon. Do you do your nails yourself? ~Photo courtesy of Google~

I'm sure your nails are gorgeous. I don't like anything on my nails. I've tried, and it was scraped off in a matter of days. It's the same with lipstick. I end up chewing it off within an hour. I hope you find a salon that will do the dips for you.

The dips would definitely work for you! I'd rather have lipstick on than my nails done. It adds color and life to my dull face. lol

@DianneN I tried nail polish and lipstick as a kid, you know, we all do it. But I found it felt heavy on my nails and I don't like anything heavy like that, so I was constantly scratching at it. It was the same with the lipstick. I had to work real hard at not chewing it off if I needed to wear it for some reason. Even today, without very many teeth, I still manage to chew/rub it off with whatever is left for teeth in my mouth. So, it's best not to wear it.

I've never had a mani or pedi (would you believe it?) I do admire people who have nicely manicured nails but my nails are always a mess and break easily

I don't believe it or do I? I'm pretty sure there are good products for your nails.

I do nothing with my nails . I work with my hands a lot, so nail stuff wouldn't last no matter what. Luckily I inherited "nice" nails . . . they are strong and I can keep them long (I have gotten compliments even though I do absolutely nothing - somehow they look "shaped"). How often do you go?

Same for me, I do nothing with mine but get a lot of compliments. They grow fairly easily and get rather long.. but eventually they chip or break when they get too long. I'll try to trim them when they start getting long, but I get so busy I just forget.

@DianneN Well the thing is, I may have decent nails, but my fingers are crooked . I am double jointed in all my fingers, so maybe that's why - and I have short fingers. Oh well, can't have it all . I've never been to a mani/pedi salon!

I'm sure your artistic fingers look gorgeous, with or without polish. Lucky you!!! I used to go every week for a mani/pedi, especially in the sandal months. For a pedi, I just need a color change every other week. Now, I can go every 3-4 weeks!

@DianneN Hi Dianne, I used to do my own nails but have not done them in quite a long time. I never went to a salon.

Perhaps some day you can treat yourself to a salon manicure. It's well worth it.

@DianneN I doubt it Dianne. Things are expensive here and I have to watch where our money goes too. It is for Sophie and myself.

That's interesting! I go to a salon, I have been having my nails done for more than 10 years. I get manicures and pedicures once a month and prefer nail gel Amy. My girls in the salon have personal tools for me, they store them in my personal box in their salon. I am scared to get illnesses from other people, that is why they offered me this option several years ago. I prefer square nails of 1.5 size

My salon stores my utensils, too, I my personal box. I had to buy an extra set for my other salon in Florida. One can't be too careful in the day and age. Does your salon offer dips?

@DianneN Yes, but my nails are very good, so I prefer gel on my own nails. Amy is expensive and of a good quality

I can't do my nails on my own. I actually rarely get manicures and just had pedicures. But when gel came, then I would sometimes have my manicure done. I love Orly or OPi. My favorite nail spa to go to is called Manhattan and their nail techs are named Kate Spade, Chanel, Gucci, etc .My favvorite nail techs are Cahnel and Kate.

That dip powder is intriguing. How do they apply that on your fingernails? Wow, for the French dip manicures that could last more than a month. I do my pedicure. I also tried manicures when I was single but it's not for me. It seems my finger is heavy. I just have them trimmed short since I was a teller then and long nails hinder my counting bills fast.

I've had a few manis and 2 pedis in my life, I wasn't impressed with the mani's and my feet are way too ticklish for pedis or at least not very often .... the salon people hate all the laughing when they're trying to work on my feet. I don't regularly do my nails but I'll cut them when they get too long.

My nails look terrible. There was a time when I let them grow long, shaped them, polished them, and took good care of them. Now I can barely find time to trim and smooth off the rough edges. My nails break so fast in my line of work. Even with the protection of gloves they suffer. One day I will take better are of them. This of course will be when I retire.
