My Hibiscus Plants Are Dying …

Trinidad And Tobago
April 29, 2018 1:29pm CST
The sun has been so hot these past 3 weeks and hardly any rain falls. All trees and plants are suffering. Some of my plants have died off totally. I am unwell too. Yesterday another fire broke out and burn out furiously all around us and onto a bamboo patch for the whole night. Almost in a circle the fire surrounded about 50 houses. My brother spends a few hours outing fire and a night watch had to be undertaken. Some inconsiderate fool, as usual, started the fire. Now many of my flower trees are dying. I can only spare water for the Tulsie plants which are sacred to me. I need 1 barrel of water to water my plants properly. We live in an area where we are in no man’s land. The government water is rationed in the area, but it only reaches us for one day and one night. If we miss the day (there is no specific day) we have to wait for three weeks again. I am so, so sorry for my plants. Credited: Picture taken from the internet, public domain.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe you can build a simple rain water collection system for such hot days. I was actually thinking about doing that in my garden

@Gita17112016 it was hot and dry last week. I had to water the plants every day. That’s when the idea of colelcting water rain came to me

We are having 1 minute shower, not enough to work. But that is actually a great idea. Our house already has sprout / guttering. I'll have a look and see if is doable. How is your garden faring?

@Madshadi Because I am ill, I have trouble to carry water in buckets. I want to see if we can put some sprinklers too.

@Mavic123456 It is recommended but we hardly do it. My family do not have good health, so we just do enough to survive. The place is just neglected.

We have about 20 water tanks and if we are lucky we'll be able to fill them in the 24 hours. Off course we have pumps, and we conserve as much as we can ... you know, bath with buckets, wash cars with buckets, do dishes in filled sinks, use washing machine three times a week etc. Lifestyle changes.

I am so sorry, it must be awful not to have enough water. It rained a lot here since January, it rained even during the last night. I would love to be able to send water to you.

@Gita17112016 It is raining since the beginning of May here. We had so much rain this year. I fear the humidity when the heat will come.

Thanks @ Anna. You have a pure heart. I think the sun is more extreme these few days. Could be we are also affected with global heating. Yes, it really awful to not have water and to always have to ration water. It's a complete lifestyle change.

Do you have a rainy season? On some islands it is May to June - then again in October.

Sad to hear this. If you cannot water your plants they are bound to die.

Last summer it happened the same in my country, besides there was no water we had a lot of fires. I have my own well and that help me to water my plants and trees.
