Certain Smells Evoke Memories

The other day while I was working I had to get some tomatoes on the vine for an order. Most of the bunches of them had four tomatoes and the order only called for two, so I had to remove the tomatoes from the vine. If you have ever pulled a tomato from the vine, you know the vine has a certain smell to it. This smell immediately took me back to summers when I was a child and we would pick tomatoes from our garden. Call me weird, but I really like the smell of the tomato vines.
Are there any smells that evoke certain memories for you? Are they good memories or bad? Feel free to share them here.

Yes that is a good smell too. It smells clean and fresh after it rains. I also like the way the air smells when it rains on a really hot day. It has a metallic smell to it that I love. I was never good at making paper boats, hats, or even paper airplanes.

I have good memories about plants and gardens. In fact I have been raised with large gardens around us as my father was an agricultural engineer and we lived in an open area with lot of land on our disposal. I still live on the outskirts of the metro with lawns on three sides of our house and lot of trees and plants. By the way we do have a couple of tomato plants too. I have tones of memories associated with plants and trees.

@morgoodie I still have trees and plants in my house laden with fruits mostly. As we are preparing to leave for Australia shortly so we have stopped growing vegetables for time being.

We always had a garden in our backyard when I was growing up. My dad planted everything he could fit in there and when we harvested it, my mom would can or freeze a lot of it. We always had more than enough tomatoes and my dad would give buckets of them to the neighbors. I am glad you have such good memories of plants and trees.

The smell of grass after it rained and the smell of the pages of a new book.
Those scents remind me of my childhood.

I love the smell of the pages of a new book or even an old book. They have such a good smell.

I love the smell of lilac blossom because it reminds me of when I was little. We had it in our garden and it smelt beautiful .. it makes me think of my mum as she used to pick it and put it in a vase in the house,

@morgoodie That's a shame, they give off such a lovely fragrance. Recently my eyes have started to water and sting so I wonder if I have developed some sort of allergy. It's most uncomfortable and seems to be every day.

@sprite1950 That is a possibility. I know my allergies have gotten worse as I have gotten older. I have even developed asthma in the last couple of years.

There is a lilac bush next to my driveway. I like the smell of them, but with my allergies I can't have flowers in the house.

@morgoodie my kids help us to collect strawberries, blueberries, tomatos and all those goodies, so I believe they will have good memories related with some smells.

I am sure they will have many good memories that are the same or similar. My parents were both raised on a farm. It is probably why we had such a huge garden. It took up most of the back yard and my dad used every last inch of it to grow just about everything.

Definitely we all go back to our childhood when we experience certain smells be it flowers and plants or cooked dishes.

@silvermist I know I sometimes want to go back. Things seemed so much easier back then, but it probably wouldn't be the same to go back now.

They have a nice texture to them and I just love the smell. Basil is a great smell too. Fresh dill is another one that brings back memories. We used to grow it in our garden and my mom would can dill pickles.
