First sunburn of season

Hi all! I got my first sunburn of the season yesterday. My own fault. I didn't wear sunscreen. And I know that I don't tan, I burn. However it was over cast and I didn't think that I was outside that long. Ha ha.
I put some lavender oil on it and it's mostly faded already.
I was fortunate that my daily facial lotion has a little spf in it, as my face didn't burn.
How about you? Do you suntan? Burn easily?

Hi Faye. I usually do not go out when it is too hot. But if I do, I do not put anything. I usually look like I am sun tanned most of the time.

@mlgen1037 So true. Normally I like hot. But sometimes it is just dangerous to be out in the heat

And right now I can empathize with that sentiment. It is so very hot here right now. I should go to garden, but.... it's oppressive out there.
Your complexion is beautiful!

@FayeHazel The struggle is real with that excruciating heat outside.

Even in the UK we can get strong sunlight in April and May, I used to like being tanned but not anymore after the warnings about skin cancer. Now I put on spf30 or higher if I'm going to be out in the sun more than 30 minutes.
P.S. Show me your white bits.

@FayeHazel The last time I had my hand on a young lady's milky white thigh I was on my way to...Where was it now?
Oh yeah - Paradise.

You're wise. The sunlight isn't worth skin cancer.
heh heh. *holds up underside of pasty white arm*

My husband got sunburned two weeks ago when we went to the beach. He forgot how powerful the sun rays were.

@FayeHazel Apparently our UV rating is regularly much higher than countries in the northern hemisphere.

@JudyEv It's sort of funny, before I started this discussion I hadn't really thought on other countries and locations having more UV from the sun than others, but it does make total sense

so, are you sunburned in your entire body, or just your arms and legs?

@FayeHazel that is good. it is so painful when your sunburned skin peels off and if you forcibly peel it, all the more your skin will hurt and have abrasions.

@ridingbet Oh ow! I'm happy that I didn't burn bad enough this time to peel. That is nasty

@FayeHazel Yes the sun in Australia is stronger for some reasons .. and it's dry heat .. whereas in the Philippines it's humid .. there's more moisture in the air which help the skin not to burn ..

Being a Florida native, I believe I have a permanent tan that I can't get rid of no matter how hard I try! But even so, I will still get a sunburn every now and then if I stay out in the sun too long!

@moffittjc Oh didn't think about the skin cancer thing. Yeah that's no good. Hey - are there tanning booths there? It's popular here. Most gyms will have a "tanning" section, and sometimes the tanning is in stand alone places. -- there I would imagine you wouldn't have need for it.

I learned my lesson in Florida. I burn easily and get sun poisoning. I actually got a burn in a drizzle at a pool in Rio de Janeiro. My doctors all tell me to wear sunblock even if I walk to the mailbox outside. Once you burn, the damage is done.

Does it hurt. I got coloring yesterday. Instead of taking a nap after I feed my cat early morning I stayed up and sat outside and got color. I sit out on nice days so I start slowly but lately I have been inside during the week and outside on our Sabbath which is Saturday. i read and pet my cat and relax.

I used to sit outside in the backyard of our house in Minneapolis and would get very good color.

AH - I was lucky this time, it was only moderately uncomfortable. I know bad enough burns can make one have a fever and all.
I'm happy you got some nice sunlight and color :-)

I will burn without protection even though I wouldn't say I am fair-skinned. At the beach SPF-50 is a constant companion, lol.

When I go to a tropical destination I use a very high factor sun cream and sun block. I wear a sun hat, drink water and cover up my body at the hottest times of the year. In New Zealand my skin could burn even if the sun was out for 20 minutes so even on a dull day I applied sun cream. Some friends went to Spain's Canary Islands and it was very windy. They came home with much sunburn. Even when it is windy wear sun cream in a place like that.

My son and I both got sunburns yesterday as we were outside longer then I had expected. We went to the park and played basketball and climbed rocks then after we went to my parents house for cake and ice cream for my sister and since my niece had chicken pox we stayed outside. I do care about myself but I do feel bad my son is burned. It's not bad but still.
I've never heard of putting lavender oil on a burn. I always use vinegar when the burn is bad enough to need something on it.
