As long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a footballer. Then there were no women's national football team in my country, so I had to give up that dream and become a teacher instead. Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I held to it. What about you guys. Did you ever give up on a dream or a goal ? Please share.

I wanted to be a heart surgeon, but my mother talked me out of it. I did become a teacher and had a wonderful and happy career.

@DianneN It's all good and well that you ended up with a successful career as a teacher - however - doesn't a small part of keep on wondering "What if?"

@notewise777 Actually, I did discuss with my hubs going to med school while my kids were still young. At the time, his own career was taking off, and we both decided not to cause an upheaval with the family. They came first, and I was a stay at home mom at the time. No regrets. Life worked out for the best.

@DianneN Yes, sometimes life demands the hardest choices - our happiness or that of our family. As long as you were satisfied with your choices, you've lived a full life.

I once want to be a Certified Public Accountant, I gave it up because I know that it is better for me to be in the field of communication.

You gave up on it because you weren't motivated which is a good thing I believe. So you did what you love in the field of communication.

I so much wanted to be a surgeon when I grew up, yet, due to shaking hands as a result of arthritis from a very young age; sadly I had to give up. You're right though - I too also sometimes wonder what my life would have been like were I able to pursue my dream.

It's good to have a dream or goal. It motivates us. But sometime circumstances change and we have to be practical. I believe we are govern by Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory. We have to first fulfill our basic needs

I think we all at some point of our lives we give up on some dreams. It has already happen to me but I am not sure if I really gave up of it or if I am just thinking it will happen later.
