Announcement to all friends of Patsie Hatley: This is Robbie Hatley (son of Patsie Hatley), posting logged onto my mom's account, in order to address all of her friends. My mom is alive and relatively well, but she is currently in a situation where she is not able to use the Internet, which is why she hasn't communicated with anyone on the Internet during the past 50 days or so. More specifically, after my mom's last fall (causing severe facial injuries), about 50 days ago, she was put in a "rehab center" due to not being sufficiently "ambulatory" to resume living at the "retirement center" in which she had been living. And, unfortunately, due to a joint decision by the management of the "retirement center" she's been living in, and the "rehab center" she's currently in, and the county Social Services department, my mom has been permanently booted from her previous "retirement center", because they can no longer meet her needs. The doctors and social workers now say she needs 24Hr nursing care, and her retirement center just couldn't provide that. Her increasing frequency and severity of falls and injuries were seen as evidence that she now needs more round-the-clock supervision. And I'm forced to agree. All of her furniture, clothes, and possessions are now being stored at my apartment. It may be some weeks or months before I can figure a way for my mom to a get back on the Internet (including Facebook, Mylot, etc), as there is no room in her current living arangement for a desktop PC. She needs a notebook computer. But it would have to be one with HUGE font, because her eyesight is very poor. I'll have to see what I can arrange. I'll let you all know if there are changes for better or worse in the near future. Sincerely, Robbie Hatley son of Patsie Hatley If you are connected to Patsie on Facebook you may have seen this post that seems to have just gone up. It is okay news, and just as I had thought about her falling and needing round the clock care. Pass it on.

I have added contact information to my profile. Robbie was good to put it on FaceBook. In a proper long term care center there is supposed to be someone responsible for helping residents with activities and socializing. I hope they can meet her needs. Some nursing homes here in Kansas have computers available in the activity rooms for residents to use.

I'm not connected with Patsie @Hatley on Facebook, so thank you for the update. I know that it must be very frustrating for both Patsie and Robbie and my thoughts are with them. Not having one's familiar things around one is a big discomfort and, for Robbie, I'm sure that it's an inconvenience to have his mother's things in his apartment. I do hope that he is able to find a suitable place for Patsie so that she can have 24 hour care and can get on the Internet again. Technology does have solutions for those who are visually challenged, so I hope that Robbie will be able to sort something out for Patsie soon.

I have worked in long term care and one of my favorite ladies was able to get a micro reader. I live in Kansas, and am only familiar with how services are provided here. In California it could be an entirely different set up. I am hoping @Go_AskAlex sees this discussion as he did ask about her as well.

@JolietJake He should be thoroughly tagged by now. Excuse my poor brain, I just always put something and hope it turns blue. When he commented, before, though, I could have sworn it was Alex.

She must be going nuts. And she was always adamant about saying she was NOT in a nursing home. I fear this could be the beginning of the end. Bless her sweet heart.

Hopefully she will get better care this way with more attention to her diet and well being. I hope it is going to mean fewer falls. I wonder if her falls are connected to poor vision as well.

I am connected to Patsie but had not seen this. I am glad that this isn't worse news which is what I had feared. I hope he will be able to get her a computer setup as I know she enjoyed her time online. I'm sure it would also go a long way towards making her feel happier in her new arrangement. Is there any way he can get a new address for people to send her cards and things? I guess you don't know if her previous cards had been forwarded or not?

I do not know if cards were forwarded or just collected at the retirement center. If they were there, Robbie got them. There is another post where he responded with contact information. I have also put her contact information in my bio box on my profile here.

@GardenGerty Yes I saw that you had asked. I will check the contact info and try to send her out a card when I get a chance. I will have to remember to write plainly, my handwriting is very scribbled.

First, I'm glad to hear she is alive and (relatively) well. It's great to receive positive news about her. If anyone is connected to Hatley on Facebook, I wonder if they could suggest to her son that he start a GoFundMe page to raise money to buy Patsie the particular computer she needs. I think it would make a world of difference in her mental state of health if she could get back connected with her friends. I would certainly contribute if such a fundraising account existed, and I'm sure many other people would too.

@lookatdesktop and @moffittjc I am concerned that a gofundme that paid directly to her would mess up her financial status as it did when she earned a lot on Bubblews. I did post the idea to Robbie, though.

You're right @GardenGerty she needs to be on the Web to keep herself from slipping into a state of "who cares", I watched my mom do that to herself which surprised the heck out of me.

I'm so very sorry. I wish my brother's rooms weren't all rented out. My sister-in-law used to do elder care, but I don't think they have a downstairs room to rent anymore. They live in Tustin, very close to where Hatley lived. My sister-in-law is also working at a call center now, too.

@GardenGerty I'm afraid they do now. Also, when they used to do this my sister-in-law was much younger and they weren't renting out any rooms.

@jstory07 If they could not provide the care she needed, which they obviously could not, they should not be draining her money. I wish she lived closer to Robbie, though. He said Seal Beach is difficult for him to get to.

I´m SO sorry! From what I read, I feel that her needs could be met with some money. As I had told her, she needed new glasses given from a good eye doctor for her eyes. And then a normal laptop (even secondhand) would suffice.

Her eyesight is difficult, and I am sure space is very limited. Yes, I would wonder if a regular laptop would do, but I am not there.Robbie sees things first hand. If her eyesight is afflicted due to her diabetes, even new glasses would not completely fix the problem.

It does not necessarily mean she has active round the clock nursing care, but it does mean they will pay more attention to her food and snacks and getting around safely. The staff will be there if she needs it to help her.
