The Rationale Of A Drunk Driver When Pulled Over

I don't normally check out the news online or anywhere for that matter, but I was doing Microsoft Rewards. After clicking the link to get reward points, I noticed this article about a drunk driver in Florida I believe. Apparently, a woman in a McDonald's Drive Thru called police because the person behind her kept hitting her bumper. Upon questioning the driver who kept hitting the woman's bumper, the officer noticed an open liquor bottle. When the man was asked if he was drinking and driving, he responded with no, I am not drinking while the car is moving only when I am at a stop sign or stop light. I had to laugh at this response. I have to say it is rather a creative one, don't you think? Of course, he was well over the legal limit and it wasn't his first time getting a DUI. Well It's original I'll give him that! Just as well he was stopped though as he could have caused an accident. I remember a neighbour of mine was charged when he was caught driving into his garage under the influence. They didn't catch him while he was actually on the road.

@morgoodie Yes they wreck so many lives. I don't think I could ever forgive a person who hurt one of my family through drink driving.

Yes it is very original. The way the mind works when it is inebriated. Even though I don't find driving drunk funny, I did find his rationale funny. I had a friend killed by a drunk driver and I had an uncle, his son, and his grandson killed by a drunk driver. So they are very dangerous on the roads.

@sprite1950 The sad part is that nothing happened to the driver. Of course this was back in the 70's but still. They didn't even get hurt. Such is life I guess.

It was a funny alibi. Some people do the same thing if they were trying to escape from their mistakes.

Yes, it is a funny alibi to a not so funny situation. I am just glad that he didn't hurt anyone. People can come up with some really good excuses to try to get out of their mistakes.

Clever, I guess......although I'm not sure the guy gets the help he needs by people laughing at his joke.

True, but he has to want help first before anything others do will make a difference.

@morgoodie I think it is sad he was behind the wheel. He was upsetting the woman by bumping her.

Yes it is sad that he was behind the wheel, but it is a good thing the woman called the police on him before he hurt anyone. I don't understand why people want to drive under the influence.

I do wonder if it was meant to be creative or whether he just wasn't thinking. I feel as if it must be the latter.

Probably. He may well have been only drinking when he was at stop signs or lights thinking that it would be okay.

Reminds me of an old joke where the cop asked if he had been drinking and driving and he responded in much the same way. "I only take a drink at the stop lights." Either way, it's a pretty funny response.

It is a funny response, but I don't think it saved him from getting arrested.
