I Thought My Upper Arms Will Ache!

The balls we used for our bowling activities yesterday, were really heavy. In fact, I can’t carry it with my hand for a long time.
Since we practiced bowling last Thursday and Friday from 12-1:00 , then played officially yesterday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. , some of us experienced body pains as they said today, reporting back to work.
I am happy I didn’t feel any pain at all. And to think I am much older than all the rest of them.
I think I am used to exercising my arms with the dumbbells, so I didn’t feel any pain at all, after bowling the past 2 days.
Though, I experience a sore body, if ever I exercise again for an hour after many months of not doing it.
Would your body become sore if you also play bowling for the first time or when you do a strenuous activity for the first time after many months of not doing it?

my first time was duckpins. it was hard for me to throw/aim the small ball. when i tried the big one, 10-pin it was easier to handle because of the holes. i remember the balls had different weights so i lift them one by one until i find one that's not too heavy.

Yes, that's what I also have tried before when I was still working at the bank. I slid back and fell when I threw the ball. Humiliating! It's an all bank competition.
Yes, the balls have different weights. I can say that the heavier ones will hit more balls as you slide it on the floor. If you let the ball jump, it surely goes to the canal.

@SIMPLYD oh, my. it's okay to fall backwards if it's during practice with your officemates, but not during an all-bank competition! wrong timing! hahaha!
i guess let's agree on medium-weight balls - not too light that it bounces and falls in the gutter, but not too heavy, either, that you drop it at the beginning of the lane and it never reached the pins. or worse, causes you to fall forward! hahaha!

@hereandthere Yes, that was so humiliating. But still, I finished the game and made some scores.

@Jessabuma Hmm, that is strange because you are so young to be feeling any pain.
Actually, my one hour exercise included cardio, strength and overall body exercise. I do it every day for 30 minutes but more on weekends.
This month, I stopped, because I felt lazy.

@SIMPLYD No. I don't do it regularly. I do cardio exercises most of the time, so when I do shoulder exercises or back exercises i experience body pains..

Bowling is such an enjoyable sport. This I came to know now. Before I tried it, but those are the small pins we call duckpins. But this time, the ball is heavy, I can't carry it for a minuted long in one hand.
Maybe you should practice now with a dumbbell or a 1-liter soft drink bottle with water.
But anyway, you won't experience body aches because you are still young.

Ah, well if you had been using dumbells, then your arms have been in use that way - good to have no pain after bowling! I do use my arms for lifting exercises, but I don't know about the swinging action - I sometimes get tennis elbow on my left (I am leftie), so not sure how it would react to bowling. Maybe the kids and I should go bowling next week .

@SIMPLYD I don't actually play tennis - but they call it tennis elbow when the elbow is sore like that. It is sort of like carpal tunnel - overuse of the elbow. Maybe if I carry the bowling ball kid style (2 hands), it won't be as bad .

@SIMPLYD There's usually a mark on the ball on how much it weighs. It's actually physical, You must have thrown the ball way too strong that's why it ended up in the canal or you don't throw it straight. But I'm betting because you said when it's light It goes to the canal, you were throwing it too strong.

@toniganzon When it's the lighter one, yes the tendency is to throw it too strong indeed thus it goes to the canal.
But when I use the heavier one and throw it strongly, it somewhat goes straight giving me 9 or 8 pins down.

I don't know how much they way Toni. But I cannot carry it with one hand for a long time. I have to use both hands and when I go near the line, that's the time I only use my right arm and hand to throw the ball.
It's of different weight. I choose the bit heavier ones because I noticed that the lighter ones will always go to the canal.

@simplfred You know, during the game, I would always pray an concentrate for my next ball throw. And it would give me a big score - 9 or 8 , one last throw.

It just all depends on what I am doing. I have not bowled in a while but when I did bowl it didn't bother me later on. Now that I am older it might bother my back when I go to roll the ball.

@SIMPLYD Very true about the bending part! Hubby and I are going on a date night this weekend, perhaps we might fit in a game of bowling as well.

Yes, when we are used to doing it, I think it won't bother us when we do it again after a long time we haven't done it.
And yes, now that we are older, we have to be careful especially with our backs, when we bend. This one also requires one to bend.

@PurnaSharma Yes, six of my exercises uses dumbbells. I try to maintain my arms so it won't sag and becomes so soft since I am already getting old.
However, I lost some weight the past months from cutting on sweets and sugar, so my arms are hollow, thus sags already. Well, that is understandable since I am aging already that is why it is inevitable.

@SIMPLYD ...you used to lift dumbbells,so that might be the reason , the pain couldn't effect you.

Indeed an everyday activity that can be considered one that can jog all the body parts helps us not to get sore muscles if we are to do another strenuous activity.
Your riding horses before was really a very good exercise.
What about now, what activities keep your body fir and active?

Yes, it is so cool. I have been in the company for how many years and keep just passing the bowling area when we urinate there. I never thought, I can carry those big heavy balls, which I presumed I cannot.
Now, I keep telling my officemates that we should have a tournament in bowling against other affiliates.
