Do you prefer jobs that you sat at or stood at most of the day?

Since 16 years old I was a hairdresser and stood most of my days. Every so often I would get the urge to try an office job. I had so many people that worked in an office and came in looking like a lady in nice clothes. After many years I finally had someone run my beauty salon so I could get a desk job. I did work the shop on the weekends as I had a lot of people that didn't want anyone else to do their hair. There are certain things one doesn't learn in school. That was one of my many mid life crisis's. I did get an office job and went out and bought all new clothes as the clothes I worked in at the beauty shop were not appropriate for an office. I lasted one day at the job and hated it so much. I was not use to sitting all day or only getting up every so often. I also didn't like the idea of telling, or asking someone if I could use the rest room or any time I got up. When I left the first night I told them I would not be back. I did the same thing when I went to college to take the required courses to be a teacher for cosmetology. I had to drive to a college that was over an hour from my house. I lasted and got my degree and got a teaching job in a beauty school. I didn't like the structure of the whole thing of teaching in the school. I was not use to telling someone every move I was making. It did prove to me that the grass is not always better on the other side of the road.

I can sit for hours if needed, but I do not like to do a job where I have to sit all the time every day of the week.

@ramapo17 I feel the need to move. I like to have a walk early in the morning before breakfast.

And this is why I run my own businesses and yes I am successful. I am a moving person, I sit as less as possible.

I know, I cannot believe how many people have a desk job all their lives. I can't sit still for an hour without getting itchy. My youngest grandson was diagnosed with ADHD and everyone in the family said he take after me. I have never changed and I know at 76 I don't believe I will willingly slow down.

I am a data encoder and my work demands to be in front of the pc all the time. But It's up to me sit or walk when I want to. It's a good thing when we can have a good boss. We don't need any supersivision coz we do our jobs the right way.

I had a computer that was on a mobile top so I walked around with it all day long.

We are not all created the same. It is a good thing as there has to be people to do every job.

Most of my working years I was in high management so I was able to have the best of both worlds. Sit until I was bored and walk around until I wanted to sit again!

do you cut your own hair? what did you do with all the new clothes? maybe you can still teach your skills in an informal setting.

Sometimes I do cut my own hair, like last night. I kept all my clothes and had some of them for years as I didn't usually get dressed up.

I do cut my own hair when I want it done immediately and don't have patience to wait for an appointment. I kept all my clothes and wore them every so often.

I like office work more than field work. You said "I lasted and got my degree and got a teaching job in a beauty school.". And this job does not involve you sitting all day long? Or you must move?

@ramapo17 oh, I meant moving around the place where you work in, not moving from one region to another

I have always had a standing job and tried a sitting job once and hated it and quit in the very beginning. I have to roam around and socialize.

I'm a sitter and always preferred an office job than one where I was required to stand. I did both so I know how hard it is to be on your feet all day. Good thing not everyone likes the same types of jobs or we'd have all sitter or standers

I have been in that situation as well when you think her life rocks because she is working in an office but when you get there you find it is not what you thought

I don't think it was the sitting or standing that mattered. It was losing your independence which self-employment provides.

I've worked jobs where I was on my feet all day and I've worked jobs where I was sitting all day/evening. I prefer the sit down jobs. Being on my feet all day was exhausting and did a number on my feet. I'm thankful that I wasn't required to wear heels at any of my jobs.

@iniaku Sometimes we have to change jobs to find the one we really want. It is good staying with the one we don't like until we do find the want we want. At least we would still be making money to cover our bills.

One thing I liked about teaching was being able to change up standing and sitting throughout the day. My body can't stand sitting or standing for a long time.
