They used to "keep on ticking"

Remember that brand of watch that flooded the networks with that "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking?" Well, Anne bought a new watch, it quit working. She sent it in for repair, dealt with customer service for five months, got a new one in the mail this week and guess what? It only works intermittently, while "time marches on." They had offered her a refund; now she will ask for one. Now, this was not a Rolex, just a brand of watch that used to be very reliable. Do you still wear a watch? I quit when I retired, but Anne can't live without one.

@JamesHxstatic Come to think of it, the big curio wall clock that came from Ebay likes to harass my hubby. It runs on batteries. He gets it set so that it won't bong at night and just when he thinks all is well, bong bong at midnight! He gets that done all over again and a few days later it bongs on the daylight hour then at 10 after, kicks him with more hourly bongs. I'm not laughing. No, not me.

I have never been much of a watch person. I joke with people that I'm not into the concept of time. But I just don't like wearing things. I don't wear watches or jewelry. If I need to know what time it is, I just look at my smartphone.

@JamesHxstatic Everybody keeps asking me when I'm going to break down and give in and buy a smart watch. Again, why would I do that when I have my smartphone right in my pocket. I don't need to look at a smartwatch and a smartphone to see the same information!

I'm so sorry Anne went through all that aggravation. I do love my watches and wear them as jewelry when I'm not wearing my Fitbit. Mine keep excellent time, even the Fitbit!

I wear a watch all the time, I remember those watches as I remember, it was Takes a licking but keeps on ticking. A little different as you remember it. Glad Anne's getting satisfaction with her new watch.

@JamesHxstatic My watches last a long time. I don't remember how long I've had this one.

I still wear a watch, and have a very reliable one that I was given in India 5 years ago. My only problem is that I now have to put my reading glasses on in order to be able to read it properly.

I used to love my Seiko watch - now that was a reliable watch! But I stopped wearing watches maybe about a decade ago - I use my hands a lot - and I didn't like the thought of putting on and taking off a watch all the time. And then it just got easier looking on the phone.

Yes, I suspect that watches are pretty much on their way out.

@JamesHxstatic I was thinking today that I might want a "pretty" watch . . . it's actually kinda tiring to pull out the phone just to see the time.

I am like Anne and I cannot live without my watch. I have an expensive one that never worked well, and a current watch that I wear all the time and never skipped a second in 20 years.

@JamesHxstatic My mechanical watches (ALL) run fast, usually they advance of 5 minutes, then they settle there. This is an inexpensive automatic watch and it works perfectly.

It is good to hold on to a good one once you find it.

I only wear one when I go out nowadays, but it used to be automatic to put one on first thing in the morning.
