Yesterday was not a good day. I was still shaken from the extortion email, plus I had been battling extreme tiredness and a migraine. Then, when I was cooking my lunch, the smoke alarm decided to go off. I hadn't burnt anything, and there was not even the slightest whiff of smoke, but the stupid thing started screeching like a banshee, and would not stop. I tried everything I know - waving a paper in front of it to create a fresh breeze, covering it with a mop, hitting it with the mop (for all of which it did not help that it is located at least a metre above my head.) I tried calling my friends who own the house (I am housesitting for them) but their phone was off. Likewise several other friends who I hoped might be able to offer advice. I ended up googling how to stop a smoke alarm, and over an hour after it started was finally able to silence it. By that time I was a frazzled mess. I wrote off the afternoon and retreated to a comfy chair with my knitting.

Oh no! I would hate to have to listen to a smoke alarm for that long. I wonder what set it off?

I have no idea. I can totally understand why people disable the things.

I know I shouldn't but normally if the smoke detector goes off with every little bit of heat or humidity that touches it, I take the battery out of it. I hope today was much better for you.

Yes, I do that at home. I couldn't do it here - not my house, and I couldn't reach it anyway.
